I've narrowed it down to the P245 (.45 ACP) and P239 (either in .40 S&W or 9mm). I've seen the P232, but I just didn't like the look and feel. What's the best Sig Sauer for 'ankle carry'?

Sigs are pretty heavy to be used for ankle carry, i've got a M&P compact .40 thats one of the lightest autos i've handled (other than kel-tecs or walthers) and even its fairly bulky on my ankle

Once in a while I'll carry a S&W 442 in an ankle holster. I don't even know it is there sometimes.

Sig 239 is heavy compared to the 442. FYI I love my Sig 232, but I'll carry it in a Milt Sparks IWB holster.

Me thinks ankle holster needs a very light firearm.

Which is why I was leaning towards a P239. I was really jonesing for a P245; they're a great little package and it's chambered in .45 ACP. But considering it weighs a ton (like any other Sig), I decided a P239 would probably be ideal.

My other thought is what barrel chambering to select? .40 S&W would be ideal, but I think recoil would start to be a factor considering it's relatively light weight. I'm not totally opposed to using a 9mm for SD though.

I hoping there's another NESer that ankle carries a P239 that can chime in...

Have you ever considered a small .357 magnum wheelgun? S&W and Ruger make some fine revolvers for ankle carry. Some are lightweight models as well. - Michael

the only sig i own is a 226 which is obviously a full frame so i cant speak to the recoil on a 239

however my M&Pc is chambered in .40 S&W and the recoil really isnt that bad

There isn't one. Even the P232 is too large for an ankle holster, IMHO.

Ankle holsters kinda suck anyways, so you're not missing much.

I think that's where I'm heading. I wanted to maintain a dimension of consistency. Plus, I wanted to keep handgun centerfire types to only three (9mm, .40, .45). Perhaps a small .357/.38 S&W revolver is in order. I think I need to do more research.

The impetus behind all this is the fact that my work attire is probably going to change from jeans and polo to slacks and button-down shirt. I'm worried about concealability so that's why I'm sort of drifting to ankle carry.

A P239 in an ankle holster??? [shocked] Only if you have cankles and a man servant to retrieve it when needed...

Rep points awarded. [rofl]

Derek33 posted pics of his smart carry.

you can go that route, thunder wear or tuckable IWB (c-tac, m-tac ect)

edit: i forgot pocket carry. but personally, i'm strickly IWB / OWB on a rare occasion. -due to the clothes i wear & ease of access vs. concealment.

I'm really getting nervous with IWB carry. know that I'm going to be borderline impossible when I have to don a pair of slacks and a dressy shirt. That's why I'm considering ankle carry.

i know my c-tac is height adjustable, but it's kinda moot with a glock 23.

it may or may NOT be more manageable with a smaller gun... a PPK / PPS / Sig 232.

only you will know.

for me? i don't care as long as the gun is not exposed. "they" can speculate all they want. tell them its a pedometer or something [laugh]

I tried this at work once. I have a ankle holster and decided to wear it to work with my Para Hawg 9. Besides hurting my ankles all day long and it shifting it's weight all the time, When it came down for the afternoon dump I had to place one hand inside my pants to hide it and try to look normal. It's more hassle than it's worth.

I don't think it's been bestowed with Martha Coakley's Holy Blessing yet.

I guess a small, S&W J-frame is the way to go.

still, that's the one for you.

But if you can't put that together, consider a Kahr. The P45 is an inch shorter than the smaller Sigs and a 1/4 inch thinner and only 75% of the weight. Add in good workmanship and the same .45 cartridge you want and there you are.

Now, it's true, you're only going to get 5 or 6 rounds. But I would rather have less of a full-power round than more rounds and less power. Besides, you can always carry another mag.
