Hi Folks.

My girlfriend just got her SW BG 380. We were shooting it for the first time little while ago and I can't help but think something is wrong with the trigger. Its not smooth at all. To get it started you really have to pull it, then once you do it jumps to the rear and fires. I have an LCP and trigger pull is lighter and smooth all the way through. Is this the way the BG is supposed to be. We are relatively new to firearms so I don't have the experience to say for sure but out of the 10 or so types I've shot this is the only thats been like this.

Thanks

My BG380 has the heaviest and longest trigger of any firearm I have ever fired. By all means have someone check it out, but it's easily a 12 lbs+ trigger pull...

You've got the dreaded MA trigger. MA AG regs require a 10 lb pull on a handgun trigger for it to be legal to sell in MA. Take it to a smith and get a trigger job, it's worth the cost.

Welcome to the forum.

Has anyone done a trigger job on the bg380? Any idea on the end result lbs and cost? Does it shorten it at all it is so looooooong and then boom.

The S&W forum has a lot of complaints about the trigger. Apparently there's an FAQ section on Smith's website. You may have a defective one.

Doesn't sound like your trigger is working properly. Mine has a long lead up when I start to pull, needs progressively more force, than you can feel it right before it breaks. It is a hefty trigger pull though, mostly at the end. I would try to compare it to someone elses if someone has one nearby (or at the gun shop). If it is different, send it to S&W, it could be defective.

I shot the gun he is talking about and i thought it was a little off myself. I bought a bodyguard as well but never fired it before I sold. This is the only one i have shot.

I have DA, DA/SA, SA guns and the DA trigger is long and heavy like we are all familiar with but at least the trigger will move. This one here acted a little different. When i chambered the first round and went to pull the trigger, the trigger wouldn't even move when i started to pull it, so i pulled it a little harder, still didn't move, then pulled it even harder and all of a sudden the trigger breaks and and the gun goes bang. After that the trigger was normal though, it was a long heavy trigger pull like I would expect. I wish i kept better track of if it was only happening on the first round though. I only put 2 mags through it. When I did have my BG (in dry firing) I was able to pull the trigger quite a bit before it broke.

I don't think this is just a long and heavy trigger pull. Like LT1MCSS, said the hammer pretty much wont move until its ready to break.

lol i was saying the same thing when i first looked at it for my wife at the gun store i said "wow thats a heavy trigger" he insisted it was the same as anything else but it sure felt heavy. i have put about 100 rounds through it and its still heavy and long but smooth no jumping

There is no MA trigger for a BG380. They're all that way.

ETA: NM, turns out I might be wrong.... they're supposed to be 6.5 pounds. Maybe there IS a worse MA one, although the ones I've played with at one MA dealer and one NH dealer both seemed to have the same trigger. (which to me, is just another typical DAO auto trigger). . I have an LCP and the BG380 seemed longer and heavier pull, but they're still both "little DAO auto pulls".

The trigger pull is so long that on many shots I actually pull the trigger halfway back, get a sight picture, and then fire. Otherwise, I often "pull" the shot low-left because of the heavy pull.

This got me looking and it appears from the Smith forums that there may be some out there with defective triggers. A few people have posted about them being MUCH better after the S&W people worked them over so I would contact them.

Yup, it's just a normal D/A Mass trigger...

I think people are missing whats really happening here. The trigger when you try and pull it does NOT move. Finally when you give the trigger a good pull the trigger instantly breaks and the gun goes off, then it has a long trigger pull. Personally i think it might be defective seeing as I have DA guns and none of them do this. It seems like the trigger is almost getting "stuck"

On the one I had I could pull the trigger back quite a ways before it would break.

I will contact SW and see what they say. I will post back once I figure this out. Thanks everyone for the help.

I've got one, the BG is the girlfriend's [laugh]

Update: Took it back to the dealer. They said there is no problem with the trigger it just sucks.

BULLSHIT! it is a LONG trigger and is on the heavy side, but Ive had worse on new guns..... probably a 12 pound initial pull, but I can easily and consistently "stage" the trigger right before it breaks every time

Anyone get a trigger job for this gun? Im sure it will smoothen up after a few hundred rounds but that might cut it from a mile to half a mile [wink]

Looking for that information, too.

Is there a normal weight trigger for this, or do they all suck?
