With the tragedy in CO I have made the decision to learn how make myself more aware of my surroundings etc for the safety of myself and my family. I already iplement the "easy/common" practices like facing doors when at a restaurant etc. I'm not big into reading but would like suggestions of some books to purchase.
Thanks

"Principles of Personal Defense" by Jeff Cooper. More mindset/attitude than specifics, but a definite must-read.

You might check out this guy's blog: http://ferfal.blogspot.com/

He has a book out, too, if you want something in paper form. I've only read his blog and it's more about urban survival in a SHTF scenario, but a big part of that is raising your level of awareness and just generally being more intelligent about how you do things. Might be interesting to you. His blog is very interesting to read, anyways.

Kick him in the...... nose.

Stand down. He got off in Brookline where the gun laws will protect the common folk.

To the OP: sorry, I didn't mean to muck up your thread but I was seriously reading it when this nut job in a full length heavy leather trench coat comes walking by on a hot and humid day. One of these books should address this somehow.

My recomendation, which is more of a general knowledge type book, it The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why

http://www.amazon.com/The-Unthinkab...F8&qid=1343262118&sr=8-5&keywords=unthinkable

Which someone else here on NES recommended it--but I forget whom.

Only in America: a two page article describing a pamphlet that takes half the time to read.

Or just read the pamphlet, ACTIVE SHOOTER HOW TO RESPOND

Just what you asked for! But maybe not want you need [wink]

Indicators of Potential Violence by an Employee:

• Increase in unsolicited comments about firearms, other dangerous weapons and violent crimes
