If any of you ever find the same thing in your homes, I hope you will use this example. [sad]

BOSTON -- The bomb squad was called to a Lawrence home on Thursday after a box of ammunition was found.

The box was found at a home on Lynn Street in Lawrence.

It is unclear if the ammunition -- believed to date back to World War II -- is live, according to NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff.

It might have been a cache of "cop killer" ammunition. Someone has to call Four Season's and warn them of the impending danger they are. OMG I'm in danger!

Probably some dottie old lady who found her dead husband's left-over ammo or, possibly, some soccer mom who found a box left from the house's previous owner.

Twits, whoever they are.

Hey, Lawerence Bomb Squad I heard you came into a box of vintage mil-surp ammo... I'll give you $5 bucks for it.

What's the deal with this? Am I missing the part where responding uniforms and their supervisor freaked like the sheep who called this in? Some chunk of pertinent info has pulled a Jimmy Hoffa.

That makes no sense at all....Unless the ammo was a crate of 5 inch shells.

What a thief...They could probably get ten times that much at a gun show.....

I have to wonder if the new media got this right. I can't see the guy going in dressed in the bomb suit to pick up a box of 50 handgun rounds.

Gail Huff must have been laughing to herself as she reported this.

Her husband is a Major in the reserves (JAG) and many of her personal friends in her home town are shooters. I don't know if Gail herself shoots, but an awful lot of people she associates with do. I get the feeling she was the only one on site who wasn't shaking in her boots!!!

If the homeowners/renters didn't have a license will they be charged with possession?

That's what doesn't make any sense to me either. Maybe one of the responding officers was also on the bomb squad and was hoping to take home a few extra bucks this week.[laugh]

She must be the only one at WCVB that isn't a complete anti, then.

As the story was only a few lines which I find off, might they have picked up a dispatch transmission and ran with that?

It'd have to have some detailed indicators to mobilize, no?

I think it went something like this;
"Okay everyone stand back. This here is 7.62X54R. Very dangerous stuff. It just so happens I'm out of this caliber and I have a Mosin I'd like to shoot this weekend. So, stand back. I will put this in my trunk and safely dispose of it."

We would always have elderly residents bring in ammo and other items left over from a deceased spouse or relative. If it was a caliber we used or could use, we fired it at our range.

We would get some ancient boxes from time to time.

Upon further investigation, pointy knives were found in the kitchen and non-lidded 5 gallon pails were found in the shed. Child endangerment charges are pending.....

Bomb Squad wow they went easy I am surprised the article didn't say they were charging everyone in the house with illegal possession and had to call in the swat team also just in case.

Nothing like over reaction to a box of ammo. I love Massachusetts

Definitely sounds like more information is needed, but nonetheless it cost the town 2000x the price of a single box of ammo if that is all that it was.

If the ammo was old and corrosive, I could see the home owner freaking out and the city sending out a 'trained disposal specialist' but sending in the bomb squad seems a bit overkill. This reads more like a damned if they do, damned if they dont scenario.

Lastly, Lawrence..bomb squad? Who in their right or even wrong mind would plant a bomb (other than raid) in Lawrence? More evidence of the funding disaster we call the Mass Budget.

There were probably 2 boxes worth of spend .22LR brass around the house when I bought it. I crushed it all w/ a hammer as I was cleaning the place up. Anything to comply...[rolleyes]

I fear for our state's future.

Hey, Doobie... you notice any other for sale signs up in your new neighborhood?

Update!

BOSTON -- The bomb squad was called to a Lawrence home on Thursday after grenades were found.

A man selling his deceased parents 28 Lynn St. home found the World War II-era grenades inside.

The neighborhood was evacuated as a precaution.

The grenades were X-rayed and determined to be harmless.

Well a box of grenades is a bit different then what we all were assuming they ment when they said ammunition [laugh].

Grenades, ammo, suitcase nuke.... It's all the same thing to them, designed to be children seeking, cop killer, baby seal clubbing, evil assault weapons of mass destruction..... It was probably in the same box as a pair of evil, black automatic revolver single shot sniper assault pistols....

The news media strikes again. Accurate reporting at its best. Probably in their rush to be the first to report this catastrophe, they forgot to get the facts of the incident.

Not too long ago my ex-wife was moving out of MY former house that she got in the divorce (no I'm not bitter!!!) and found a box of old 9mm ammo of mine. She called the police (yes this was in Mass), they sent 4 officers over to pick it up and take it to the station. I had to drive two hours to claim 16 rounds of cheap chinese 9mm...

Yes my ex-wife is a product of this sad sad state. I miss Vermont more and more every day. You find half a box of ammo there, you just add it to the collection in your glove box!
