Hi all,

Just got my LTC yesterday and (after months of research) went out and bought my first firearm - a brand new Sig P226.

Was thrilled with my purchase, took it home and field stripped it and ran a few patches through the barrel to make sure it was totally clean.

Went to the range, loaded up my two magazines and started shooting. AMAZING!! Love damn near everything about the gun. Was shooting fantastic groups and had 0 issues.

Loaded my fourth mag and sent the target a bit farther out. Racked the slide, aligned my sights and squeeeeeezed the trigger all the way to the back of the trigger guard. No bang. Tried again. No bang. De-cocked, re-cocked, tried to fire - no bang. Field stripped and inspected all the parts. Everything looks OK but I honestly don't really know what I'm looking for.

Loaded it back up and decided to try double action. Squeezed the double action trigger - BANG.

For some reason the gun will now ONLY fire in double action mode. Single action does not drop the hammer at all.

Did I somehow mess the gun up? I asked the guy who runs the range and he looked at it for a few minutes, hosed it down with what appeared to be some kind of lube and promptly told me my trigger was broken and that I was an idiot for not buying a glock.

Obviously I'm going to call Sig tomorrow, but has anyone ever heard of this?

Looks like a broken trigger. I have the full SIG breakdown manual in PDF format. PM me if you think it will help.
I would recommend to bring/send it over to SIG. (I would just drive it over)
I have over 3000 rounds, never had any problems. I went to many group shoots, training classes etc. There was always a problem with some magazine, or some gun, all different brands, including Glocks, but never one with a SIG.

I'm sure I'd just get into more trouble trying to fix it myself. Thanks for the offer though!

Passing through Exeter this weekend and am going to swing by the pro shop/academy to see what they have to say about it.

Really looking forward to putting thousands of rounds through mine - too bad about the false start!

I shot Berettas, Glocks, H&K's and loved them all +- After I got my Sig with the Hogue grips, I have repeatedly gone bacj to these other guns, and every time, it got re-enforced that the Sig is just much better, Sure, it is not the easiest gun to shoot with. But once you get the hang of it, it is the rock-solid gun to go with,

Does the hammer not drop or does it just not go bang when it does? If hammer does not drop, have you tried removing the slide, cocking the hammer and trying to pull trigger with no slide? It's easier to maybe see something that is off.

Brand new gun broke the first time you shot it? I'd call the dealer I got it from first and ask them about it. If it's a reputable dealer, they'll stand behind a product they sold.

More information is needed. Is the the hammer dropping when you pull the trigger in SA mode or is it refusing to drop?

Completely refuses to drop the hammer in SA mode. Hammer does not move whatsoever no matter how much I pull the trigger.

Tried with the slide off as well and unfortunately I don't know enough about the proper operation to see what's going wrong.

Dropped off at sig pro shop - they suspect the wrong trigger bar got installed. Can't wait to get it back with the right one!

Did you try calling Sig? I've called them to ask them questions before and they were both responsive and knowledgable.

Normally the 226 is a very reliable pistol in fact I have thousands of rounds through mine with no issues, there are a few things to look at though:

Check to see if the Trigger Bar Spring is broken or improperly installed.
Inspect the sear for damage (doubtful but possible there is a burr causing it to hang up?)
The safety lever is damaged and preventing the hammer from releasing
The trigger bar is damaged, this would probably cause the trigger to hang up as well though
The mainspring assembly is improperly installed, (very common probably should have put this first)

Did you take the grips off? I've seen trigger weirdness (like the trigger not resetting properly) when the trigger bar return spring was damaged or installed improperly. It's under the right side grip panel.

I have nothing but good dealings with sig customer service I had a faulty magazine I sent mine in they sent me a new one. And ther right in N.H so you could even drive there.

My brand new P226 did the same thing. Worked fine, then no hammer fall in SA. DA worked fine.

I just got it back from Sig today. It was a bad safety lever.

Very fast turn around. I sent it in on the 17th. I got it back today, the 25th.

Had a pretty darn quick turnaround after dropping it off on Saturday (19th). Was ready for pickup on Tuesday but they mailed it to me. Received it last night.

Notes on the repair were:

"Replaced safety lever + trigger bar
they were interfering + wouldn't allow
the hammer to drop"

Seems like somebody was using the wrong box of safety levers....

Glad to have it back and working!
