Has anyone ever brought a rifle into Canada for a vacation trip?
We're going camping near Montreal, and I wanted to see if it would be a huge hassle to try to bring my .22 lever action rifle with me.

It is a huge hassle. You need some sort of import permit and paperwork in order to bring it back thru US Customs. Not certain, but think you can only do this if you have docs proving you are going hunting or to attend a match.

Canada is NOT gun friendly!

You can also get information from the DCRA website. Scroll down a bit and it gives information about going to the Canadian National Matches. Not exactly apropos but it gives you an idea of the hassle even if you are going to an organized shoot. It is a pain unless you plan on going up a lot.

My guess is that they will ask why you are bringing a gun up to Canada. I don't think you will get very far with putting plinking on the paperwork.
