Bushmaster question....

I own one... (of many AR's)

There are better ones for the same price. Many not complete, but you can get an upper and a lower for cheaper, and have much better overall quality. For a first AR, or one you don't plan on bringing to war, or shooting round heavier than 62gr and LONG ranges, that rifle is a fine choice.

Every AR can easily be "MA compliant" made.

And considering Acme Armament has it in stock, if you're close, go buy it from them. Good people.

This will be my first AR and im not going to do rifle shoots..I dont know anything about building my own..or what to buy.....What would you recomend for an upper and a lower? And im sure theres more to it than just getting an upper and a lower right?

Thank's for you help[grin]

I would always recommend brands like Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske, LMT and Spikes if you're looking to build a mil-spec "top of the line" AR.

Honestly, Bushmaster, as well as Stag, and S&W are very good quality AR's and shouldn't be overlooked if you are simply looking for a good platform AR15 to shoot and have fun.

Hell, alot of PD guns are Bushmaster, and they push them at training classes firing thousands of rounds without incident, so don't rule them out. These later brands I mention still have chrome lined barrels, and although they are 1/9 twist, that is fine for rounds that are the typical 55gr-62gr out to 200 yards at least without problems; so again.. they are fine.

The Bushmaster is perfectly fine for most shooting. They do have a history of horribly staked carrier keys so if you plan on using it for real life defense, I would replace the entire BCG with one that is properly staked and a MPI tested bolt.

Has anybody here owned one of these?

Are there better ones for the same price?

Must be MA. compliant...

Thank's for your time...[grin]

Unless your going into battle soon I wouldn't worry to much, Bushy has been around for a long time and I have owned several of their products over the years and only had an issue with one which they fixed promtly. Are there "better rifles built with "better" components? You bet there is, and only you can decide of it's important to you but for your first AR I don't think a Bushy is a bad choice. There is sooooo much out there in the AR world it can give you a headache. This probably won't be the only one you own [laugh] Just My 2 bits.

I bought a BCM bolt and put it into my Bushmaster. Instead of buying an entire new carrier as well, I used an automatic center punch to stake the keys. Just go slowly and move the metal to ensure that it is contacting the screws.

I wouldn't pay that much for that particular model. It's got an Izzy brake, which is supposed to be horrendous. Plus, it has a fixed carry handle, so it will limit your options if you want to put optics on it. My Bushy is a flat top upper with removeable carry handle and a YHM Phantom brake installed courtesy of Zero Hour arms. The Phantom is a nice low cost brake that isn't nearly as bad as the ones that come on most stock MA-compliant AR15s (miculek, mini-Y comp, izzy, etc).

The Izzy isn't that bad, the mini-Y on the other hand...well it's a good way to clear the line of everyone standing around you!

+1 for Bushmasters.

Much is made of proper gas key staking. I've put 3-4000 rounds thru a Bushmaster DCM with no staking; it's rock solid.
I've shot matches with a 1:9" Bushmaster and 69gr SMK's with no problem.

I'll chime in because I love the AR platform and I sadly just sold my Bushmaster XM15 M4 rifle. Luckily I sold it to someone who will really appreciate it. That said, I really liked my Bushmaster it was built well and the price was fantastic at 880 supposedly used but there hadn't been one round through it before I bought it. It was suspected that the owners wife made him bring it to the store to get rid of it.. It was as accurate as could be and never failed in cycling and the carrier key was staked nicely as a matter of fact I would say just as good as the BCM I bought...
the AR in my avatar is built with multiple makers of parts made by LMT(barrel and upper) and AERO Precision (lower receiver) with BCM bolt/carrier assembly and charging handle and currently has a sweet Magpul PRS stock on it that I just got which put the bill a little over 1000...
