I would like to apply for a C&R FFL to purchase S&W early revolvers.
How hard would it be?
Comments Welcome.
Want to do this right.

Pretty easy overall

Here is a megathread on it that should have most of your answers
http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/104-EVERY-SHOOTER-Should-Get-a-C-amp-R-FFL!

After reading through it, I would post any questions you have to that thread and you should get a relatively quick answer

ETA: I have had my C&R for about 6 years and have made some decent purchases. Process is simple, apply to ATF and drop off/mail a copy to your Chief of Police for his/her records

Very easy. There's no discretion on ATFs end. Fill out the paperwork and wait. If you're not a prohibited person you're all set. Not sure how C&R pistols mesh with MA's stupid handgun rosters though. (Regarding whether vendors will ship here, or ship to ffl1, etc. )

Sorry to say but you missed what we refer to the good ol' times. Midway used to give discounts on them as did a few other select few. I've had mine for about 14 years now and even I got it on the tail end where you could grab up SKS's for under $100. I was the dummy who bought them and sold them, never thinking to keep them for any length of time....

I got a C&R (AKA FFL03) after a 3-week wait. As long as you don't raise any flags you should be all set. You can only buy guns you are not allowed to be a dealer.
Download the application here.

ATF publishes lists of C&R-eligible firearms on their website.

Here is the most recent update:

What can you buy? Anything over 50 years old and some guns that are less than 50 years old but are on the C&R list (like Walther P1s for example).
If you are purchasing C&R guns out of state some sellers may accept your FFL03 others may make you go thru a FFL01 (licensed firearms dealer) in your state.

Keep accurate records of all your C&R purchases and if you live in MA you are supposed to register the guns through the Massachusetts Gun Transaction Portal.

And don't list the seller when you file the FA10 online. Only provide make, model, and serial#.
