Cabelas in Hudson has ammo

Some gouge so don’t tell me they don’t.

"You keep using this word I do not think you really understand what it means. "

Who gets to define what "gouging" is?

And at least legally, in the US if we're going to "go there" - "price gouging" really wouldn't apply to ammo, in most cases. Someone ain't going to die if they had to pay a buck a round for 9mm (or whatever someone is getting).

Lol, according to wikipedia:

"The term is similar to profiteering but can be distinguished by being short-term and localized and by being restricted to essentials such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine and equipment needed to preserve life and property. In jurisdictions where there is no such crime, the term may still be used to pressure firms to refrain from such behavior. "

Even if we go out on a limb and say that ammo is essential to preserve life and property, how much ammo do you actually need to defend yourself? A few hundred rounds maybe, at
worse? (anything past that and you're dead anyways). Even at a buck a round thats only a few hundred bucks.

IOW, you can successfully start arguing price gouging when someone is charging like $5 a round or something for 9mm. That might be a good starting point. [rofl]

Even then, under the current conditions, you can't really even argue gouging. You don't even have a captive audience. There's nothing stopping the buyer from getting ammo from someone
else, etc. And the existence of people selling ammo at less than stupid price is enough to show that the environment is not captive nor coercive.

Legally speaking a test for price gouging is VERY specific, and exacting. There's good reason for that, because if the laws were too vague it would destroy the economy.

The worst thing the flippers are guilty of is perhaps wasting someone's time in looking at their ad. That I can agree on, in that one corner. Just put them on ignore and move on with your life. I hate flipper culture as much as anything, but acting like these people are "bad" because they listed some item for stupid money (and there are nippleheads who actually pay it!) is facially absurd. It makes no sense.
This is what I’m talking about. You’ve seen it yourself. It does make sense that these “nippleheads“you refer to are anxious about the current situation and some people are taking advantage. You and @EddieCoyle can stick up for your buddies after they hit the report button all you want but I’m just expressing my opinion. Last I heard I still have that right.

Its the same thing.

Ok, try this, Bitcoin.

Would you sell me Bitcoin you bought or mined 3 years ago for $.22 each ?

You also need to stop using the word gouging, I'm not selling you water or food.

Fine. I stand corrected. I can respect your post @drgrant and it makes sense. Next time I do members a favor by notifying them of ammo availability I won’t mention other vendors who I never mentined by name btw of profiteering. Try to do some good and get jumped on for insulting a few people just make a person think twice about doing it again.

Yes you do have the right. Why are you saying they are "taking advantage" ? Nobody is FORCING anyone to buy shit from them. I mean think about it. The buyer has to respond to
the ad and set something up with the seller. Maybe negotiate. If they're smart enough to do that they can just as easily shop within the ads, shop gunbroker, and shop local gun shops, or box
stores (like cabelas) etc. Most of them are just too lazy.

You're acting like these guys are ripping off elderly people, developmentally disabled or something. That just is not the case. Most of the nipplehead buyers I refer to are just f***ing lazy and panicky. Nobody wants to be bothered to do legwork anymore. (I know because I get texts from people like this all day, looking for gun shit) That's why flippers flourish, in the abundance of a market full of lazebag buyers. If someone takes them to the cleaners, so be it.

Don’t tell me all dealers mark up prices accordingly. Some gouge so don’t tell me they don’t.
What the hell is wrong with you dude? If the ammo sells, it's priced appropriately. Gun shops are a business and their #1 motive is profits. If their prices are too high, nobody will buy.
And honestly, their margins aren't as much as you think. They have to price low enough that people will buy, yet they have to make some profit in order to keep the lights on. I really don't think these dealers are rolling in benny's right now.

Ok I get what you’re saying now. Beat me over the head sometimes. Now go get some cheap frigging ammo for fvck sake and drop the gouging/raping lectures. I already apologized to the insulted. Also @Quite_Exasperated , FOAD.

You have that right. We have the right to call you out for hating Capitalism.

So I stand corrected then. I apologize to the dealers and the peeps in the classified if I upset them, and believe me, I won’t be buying ammo from them. Don’t tell me all dealers mark up prices accordingly. Some gouge so don’t tell me they don’t. I never accused anyone specific so anyone with butthurt called themselves out. Like I said in an earlier post in case you didn’t read it, I don’t have a problem with someone making a profit. Just not exuberantly.
Gouging is the war call of socialists. Thanks for repeatedly self identifying.

).

You're not?

Kulak.

A little bit different. Your talking about investment as apposed of something that’s going up in smoke.

OP I,m SOOO confused!!! you see gold as an investment, yet if you bought ammo at a low price hold it and then sell for higher than the original price it's not an investment. I,m beyond slow so would you mind taking a minute and explaining to me how investments work?

Being an investor sounds very prestigious!! (They probably shoot golden bullets out of sigs and HK,s) Gouging rapist sounds like some one who shoots 40 out of a glock

I also have to ask OP when you bought your 5 boxes of 9mm did you buy it because you wanted it or because you needed it? If you bought it because you needed it you should be all set for the next 20 years unless something terrible happens and you need to defend your self/family. 50 rounds to sight yor gun in and make sure it works. 10 rounds in the gun and a back up mag is 20 rounds. ( if you've missed 20 times in a self defense situation you may as well throw the gun at the problem and be done with it) that leaves you with 180 extra rounds that you can sell next year for a profit which will then make you an investor or a gouging rapist depending on your perspective

After the Obama shortage I started picking up a bit of ammo here and there when it seemed like a good deal. Now years later, I'm reasonably well supplied. Good enough, that I've been selling a bit now and then with demand up. If I put up a 1K case of 5.56 this weekend for $700, I will make a modest profit on what I paid for it 5 years ago. A year from now, if the going price is $1500 a case, did I pork the buyer or myself??? When I run low, I'll have to pay the going price...either higher or lower than for what I sell it for now. Calling it rape, is like going to a sex store, buying a high priced dildo, sticking it up your butt and screaming rape.

I arrived at 8:15 and there was two boxes of 147gr Winchester Defense Ammo. No practice ammo left. There was some 22 however and I did find one box of deer slugs.

Today at 13:54, Federal 9mm Brass, box of 50 for $14.99, limit 4.
Damn, the one time my wife and her LTC is not with me.
Huh, I just got home and was able to grab 5 of the blazer brass 115 grain jacketed for 14.99. Lady in front of me asked what the limit was
And the guy said 5 so I too took the limit. They also just got some 38 special and 5.56 in. Didn’t ask the price as they were just un-boxing it. I didn’t have my phone or I would have posted it.

Swung by last night to pick up a Christmas gift for my BIL (Leatherman OHT?) and saw they had some 300blk winchester 150gr XP ‘deer season’ 20rd boxes @25.99 a pop. I bought a combat loaded worth with 10 extra rounds to check function in my pistol and left all the rest.

I asked a guy that was looking at the pile of boxes if he needed any before I grabbed what I was going to buy and he was debating whether or not he could shoot it out of his .223 AR. I kindly explained to him that he could, but would need to change his barrel out first. He kind of tilted his head like a dog does when they don’t understand...placed the box back on the shelf and walked away.

Was it 38 special? Because they had 38 Super there, yesterday and today. At open they had 200rd boxes of Winchester, 50 rd boxes of Federal 115 and 124, Herter's 50 rd boxes of 380

The limit is usually 5, he screwed you. LOL

Yep, he lost another box sale. I'm assuming it was because there was a line and there were not many boxes left. Oh well. I was going into Michaels for a special Christmas gift, so I stopped in and got a little lucky. I would have loved some CCI Small Pistol Primers, but there was only dust on the shelf where they usually keep them.

All in all, I still smiled on my way out.

Jay

Yes it was 38 special as the lady in front of bought one box of it. The older guy said that they only had 38 super then the young kid said nope we just got some 38 special in. They literally were taking the ammo out of the brown shipping boxes to stock it. Timing is everything I guess.

Supply and demand at work.
Its called a deal for a reason. A business has an obligation to make a profit, in order to restock wares for sale, cover overhead and reinvest into itself for sustainability. A purchaser has an obligation to spend wisely the budget they have. This applies to everything, walmart junk where everything has a sticker price on it to cars where haggling is the method to the madness. Guns and ammo are metals and plastics that at the end of the day are just one more commidity to be bought and sold at what market prices will bear.
Buy it cheap and stack it deep.
Todays high prices are tomorrows bargains.
