are these things gimmicks? I was looking to get a new H2 or H3 buffer for one of my builds and came across this -

I know it's the flint version of the JP but at half the price. Worth it for the twang reduction when shooting suppressed or nah? Better off just getting a normal buffer and call it a day?

I have a couple of Trinity Force Silent Buffers
Worth the price? Yes,no, whatever makes you happy

They work and they are quieter than a regular buffer spring but nothing to write home about.
I just wanted a heavier buffer to maybe cut down on the gas from suppressed shooting and came across this. For not much more than just a buffer alone, seems like worth a shot if it would quiet the spring sound as well. Wonder if the Glock style two stage spring would help the recoil impulse too.

Do you even hear the 'twang' when shooting suppressed? If so, then give it a try and decide. I have a couple of the Armaspec items, for AR10, but I don't shoot suppressed, so no idea if there's any real difference there. That's the other thing, how much of that 'twang' is conceptual vs actual?

I will say that they're a bit more of a hassle to install/remove than a standard buffer system.

Normal buffer is fine. The full capture JPs offer a quieter action for shooting subsonic suppressed, where you suddenly realize how loud the action is. But there is no need to reinvent the wheel for other types of shooting in my opinion. I would suggest a flat wire spring though, to tame the twang. Flat wire springs do a good job of that.

I have both the JP SCS and Armaspec SRS. I do notice a different, more manageable, recoil impulse. I notice it the most when I'm doing two shot type drills when I'm trying to put two shots into one sight picture.

I can't really explain the feeling but I think it has to do with the much shorter spring in the JP and Armaspec spring system vs a traditional longer buffer spring. There isn't a huge difference when I'm doing more controlled shots.

Overall I'd say they make the rifle feel more "premium". Charging feels great and the lack of spring noise is nice. For $60 or so I'd say it's a worthwhile upgrade. For $100+ I'd probably pass. JP SCS is only worth it if you want a silent spring system AND you want to fine tune your gas system. The SCS can be purchased with 5 different spring weights.
