The Model 36 I recently got is missing some bluing and is spotty and brownish in others, so I'd like to make it look like new. I understand that refinishing is anathema to collectors, but I'm not a collector and I have no intention of ever selling it if I can help it. It's also my EDC and will receive ample range use.

That being said, bluing at S&W is an option but it will eventually wear down again despite looking nice. Cerakoting looks cool to me and is supposed to be tough as nails, and it sounds like what I'd like to do (in a dark color like black or blue).

Paper City Firearms does cerakoting on revolvers so I may go with them down the line, got a bunch of other things to pay for first. Just looking for experiences with cerakoting on revolvers, is there any issues I should be aware of?

We have a blackhawk at the shop that we cerakoted... dont know of any issues as of yet. I am interested to hear from others as I have a little revolver or my own I am thinking of having done.

I've seen a lot of pictures of other ones when I google them, Cerakote keeps a gallery so that's helpful. I don't want anything fancy like some with multiple colors, zombie blood and so on. I'm just going straight black or midnight blue so it resembles bluing, I'll have to see. Got to get some work done on my car first so I have time to think.

Marshall at paper city does nice work.

Awesome, when I've got the money I'll be going there most likely. I'm only still kind of torn between re-bluing with S&W and cerakoting there. Cerakoting will hold up better, but bluing is what it already has and is classic.

It's a tough decision, but I have some time. Since the gun is for carry/range time, it's going to get some holster wear. Cerakote seems to wear eventually, but lasts a lot longer than bluing does that's for sure. I guess if I regret which one I got, I can always get the other one later.
