One of the ways I do links is like so:
Write the post like you would normally, without any links. Then highlight the word(s) that you want to be the link and click the button that looks like a globe with a chain in the lower right (sixth from the right in the new look in the quick reply box). Then enter the URL of the link (http://blahblahblah-dot-whatever), click OK and presto, the forum does all the hard work for you.
