Does anyone here know how to read Chinese writing? I have had this very old matchlock for a long time but could not figure out a date or any of the writing.
Thank you for your help.

The middle pic says in each character: day, thousand, four, hundreds, sixty, six.

The top and bottom pics are not clear enough to be read. Maybe some white chalk would help.

The writing in the first and the third look like Japanese. Japanese adopted many Chinese characters, but also have their unique writing too.

I'm thinking Japanese (kanji characters, close to Chinese as mentioned above). The signatures are quite similar to what would be found on a samurai sword. Province, possibly city, date, smith.

Those two signatures look very different. The deeper, rougher one perhaps done later for some reason.
