Normally when I clean my AR I push out both pins and seperate the rifle into 2 parts. Is there any harm in cleaning it this way?

no.

why would there be?

it's in the field stripping instructions, is it not?

i am NOT an AR Armor, but this is how I've always cleaned M16 / M4's.

you should be able to google an M16 / M4 Technical Manual (TM) and it goes through the operator level maintenance.

EDIT: my post seems a little a-holish, which I am NOT trying to be.... I just re-read it, but I'm trying to be brief and to the point.... -we cool? [laugh]

absolutely not...it makes the upper/lower easier to manipulate and get in those hard to reach areas...while youre at it wanna clean mine??? i got 4 that i REALLY dont feel like cleaning

We're seriously cool! All I wanted.

Was looking at the Midway catalog and saw all the vises showing the AR's open but not seperated and then I started thinking "OK, they're either trying to sell me useless shite or I'm doing this wrong" glad it was the former not the latter [laugh]

And no thanks Bloodhound. I hate cleaning my own enough. [laugh]
