Hello all, I'm looking for a club around lowell that has a indoor range where the target doesnt have to be all the way down range. I checked out a few and all of them has to be at 50ft.

The issue is that if the target is not near the backstop then poorly aimed rounds could strike elsewhere. We've had that happen too often at our club. A better solution could be to keep the targets at the backstop and establish a closer firing line. Richochets then become a concern depending on the type of backstop and ammo being used. Some clubs have backstops that absorb the rounds rather than deflecting them, which would be better for what you want to do. Please post what you find out.

Harvard Sportsmen's Club...just 15 mins down 495 from you has an "outdoor" range where you can shoot as close as you want!

Yanici- thanx I did here about that club from business end customs but a bit far from lowell...

Oldyankee- I was planning to join that club and attend the meeting next thurs too. How long is the meeting because I work 3rd shift and wanna make sure I make it in on time? In general how is the club/ranges?

Woburn Sportsmans Assoc. in Bedford allows shooting at 25 feet on the middle 3 of their 10 lanes on the indoor range. The backstop was just replaced with a new system and reopened last week.

Sweet! I was waiting for that range to re-open. I'm gonna check it out. Thanks

I just went to check out the website but didn't find any application online. Also, do I need a sponsor because I dont know anyone that goes there? Is there an outdoor range?

Seems like theres a lot of activities and events going on there. The days I plan to shoot will most likely be on the weekends. Will I abe able to shoot there on weekends or is the events/activities gonna affect me?

There are applications in a box at the front door of the club. The best thing to do is go to the club this Sunday between 10:00 & 2:00. The office is open and the membership secretary (Wally) is usually there. He can go over the process and application with you. If you do not have a sponsor Wally will sponsor you. The next meeting is next Thursday so getting there this Sunday would be good timing. There are many activities that go on at the club & some do cause some ranges to be shut down at times but it isn't too bad. We have a new indoor archery building (50 ft X 100 ft) that is quite nice and the indoor backstop is brand new. The backstop is self cleaning and will handle jacketed rounds which the old one would not. The outdoor pistol range has 24 stations with targets at 25 & 50 yards. I run 4 bullseye matches on the outdoor range a year. There is a 200 yd high power range and a blackpowder range. There are also two walking archery ranges on the property.
