I have done some research and have come across three gun clubs in a decent proximity to Peabody. Hamilton- Wenham, Andover Sportsman and Cape Ann Sportsman round out my list. Since this is my first time joining a club, I am not sure what to expect so I was hoping someone would key me in. I am looking to join as of Feb '13 and want to know as much as I can about these clubs from you guys or even stop by to see what its all about.

Thanks

Ive been a member @ Andover about a month. Very friendly bunch of people so far. 24 hr access is big for me. I seem to always be there at odd hours. The best time to check out the club is sunday mornings. They have the orientation for new members on the sunday following the second thurs of the month. I think you can just tag along and take the tour. I went on a thurs nite when its open to the public for trap. Got a quickie tour ( it was already dark).

Check out the calander on the website and stop by to check it out. Im very pleased so far.

I'm a member at Andover. I have been for a couple months. I highly recommend it. I live right in Peabody. If u want to check it out send me a PM and we can head over and do some shooting.

That's a bit of a hike, though. Reading Rifle & Revolver is much closer and has a 600 yard range. Their indoor facilities are decent.

I didn't have a sponsor when I joined, but one of the guys I met at a match was a club officer, so they accepted that. Dropped it a few years ago but it's an active club.

You can find lists of clubs at odcmp.com and goal.org.

For mere convenience you should check out Danvers F&G. I'm not a member but hear they have great facilities.

you can only shoot if a RO is there at danvers. i am a member at cape ann, place is great. no mag or caliber limits. lots of good people.

Another nod for Andover - I can't compare it to anyplace else fully because I am only a member at ASC, but I've been extremely happy with it. The guys at the club are very welcoming. I've only been a member a little over a month and I've been made to feel like one of the group since day one whenever I go to shoot trap (at least once a week). Only bad part is they got me hooked on trap shooting - it was bad enough when I was just shooting pistol and rifle all the time, now I have to feed a trap addiction as well.

That sounds pretty neat. I'm trying to get as much exposure to all aspects of a club as possible. Trap doesn't seem far off for me.:-)

Did u shoot trap before you joined asc or were you a newbie? I never shot and know very minimal but I'm interested.

I never shot organized trap. When I was a kid I shot clay pigeons in my field a handful of times, but nothing even remotely organized. If you go up on Wednesday night or Sunday mornings the guys are really helpful. I only went the first time just because they gave me a ticket for a free round of trap. So basically that $3 round of trap has turned into a full on obsession - new shotgun, buying reloading equipment, etc. I took second place with my partner in the knockout tournament on Saturday, so you can catch on quick. Another guy who just started shooting trap in August hit a perfect 25 last week.

Definitely come down. I'm going out of town next week and I have to work this Wednesday, but when I get back the following week if you want I'd be happy to meet you at either a Wednesday or Sunday shoot and introduce you to people.

That's me in the red and black with my tournament partner Kip. The other two were the team that beat us at the final station of the final round.

I have the same free round of trap ticket. I'm going to take you up on the meet and greet. Either day works for me. Shoot me a PM when you get back in town.
