This is a 1911 specifically built for CMP "Hardball" and the President's 100 competition at Camp Perry. It just has a little more flash than the standard parkerized GI 1911. The slide is "Damascus" on top of a blue frame. The barrel is Kart match grade. The rules limit a lot of the modifications that can be made, so all the small parts are in keeping with the rules. VZ grips will allow the shooter to hang on during the heat of summer in Ohio. I had a lot of fun shooting the ten ring out of the target at fifty yards with both "match ball" and some match JHP loads.

Nice! [thumbsup]

How do you get that Damascus look ???
Etching ????

It's typically done with a block of steel that's actually made out of 2 or more grades of steel in thin layers. Etching brings out the pattern due to the differences in the way the two grades of steel react to the etch.

So does that mean the slide is forged from two pieces of metal ???

oh yeah!

its like making a candy cane from steel. that pattern goes all the way through. when the steel is etched with acid you see variations of dark/light based off of how the different alloys react to the acid. anything high nickel and chromium will stay bright, anything with less nickel and chromium darkens up.

gorgeous stuff. a beautiful job on the gun too! i think this is the one i saw last week. amazing. pictures don't do it justice
