I had posted this in the 1911 pic thread earlier but decided to move it here and shorten that post to just a couple of pics. Don't want to clutter that thread with text.

Anyway, I just got this back from Dietrich Gunsmithy in Otis, ME. It's the first full 1911 build I've ever commissioned and it came out great so I figured I'd show it off. It started life as a plain Jane ORM Colt 1991A1 .38 Super. The internals are all Wilson and Brown, the trigger is a Greider, sights are a 10-8 U-Notch rear and gold bead front. All of the checkering and serrations are hand done. The rollmarks have been removed from the slide and the flats on the slide and frame are mirror polished, while the rounds are a very fine matte. The finish is Ionbond DLC, every part of the gun was coated except the springs and front sight. The grips are ebony and zebra wood from Wicked Grips, I have to do a little bit of fitting on the bottom edge then they'll be perfect. The neatest part of the build is that I also had him fit 9mm and 9x23 Winchester barrels to it in addition to .38 Super, so now it is a 3 caliber, do everything, gun.

I've only had time run a few mags of 9mm and .38 Super through it and it functions perfectly.
Here's a few pics-

This is what I gave him to work with

The first mag I put through it - 11rds @ 12yds - I think this one's a keeper!

Man, that's a real beauty, can see why you sent it north! website? i have been looking for someone to do DLC on a few pieces.

You realize this is the classifieds section right? I'll be pm'ing you with an offer!

Just kidding

Very nice gun. That thing looks as shiny as a grand piano! If you can lay it on something silky and take a picture of it and send it my way that would be great! I'll have to buy a disposable phone so the lady won't find the pictures.

I'm in Maine, Dietrich's is about an hour from me www.dietrichgunsmithy.com. They did everything but the DLC finish, that was arranged through someone I know at Ionbond. There are a couple of places that handle Ionbond's retail end, http://www.jabuie.com/ionbond.html and http://www.springerprecision.com/ionbond.php though I'm sure there are other places doing that sort of coating under different brand names.
