Anyone buy one of the Colt 22 cal M4's yet? I really want one but i'm not sure if i should just spend a little extra and get a Spikes dedicated 22 cal upper.
I've shot a GSG5 and that was ok but i like the look of the m4 better. Cabelas has one of the new S&W m4's. It is all plastic and looks like an airsoft gun. I'm not sure how the plastic rail would hold up mounting optics and such to it.

I'd go with the dedicated upper. That way you can use the lower that you will be using when shooting for real (223). Also, there will be more parts and accessories available for the 22 LR upper, like the beautiful Black Dog Machine 30, 15, and 10 round mags. Another point is that these mags will probably be a lot cheaper than the factory mags for the 22 rifle.

+1 dedicated is the only way to go. Look at Spikes/CMMG both are GTG

ha anyone tried the 22 cal uppers from Model 1? I think i'm going to go with the upper. I like the idea of having the same trigger feel for both rifles. I really like the JP trigger in my AR and would hate to go back to the crappy milspec trigger.

I purchased one had some feeding issues with Black Dog mags but a little work with a cratex stick did the trick. the upper likes the Federal bulk pack and CCi mini mags. Mine doesn't like the Remington bulk pack or standard velocity stuff
YMMV. I used the lighter hammer spring that came with the upper but I'm using the lower strictly for 22 rf.

I have a Model 1 upper with a 20 in fluted bull barrel. It has been pretty reliable with the exception of a failure to extract the occasional (rare) dud. I replaced the stock extractor with a Black Dog part and cured the problem. The upper is now pretty much 100% reliable with Blazers and Federal bulk pack. This is with the metal Ciener mags and 10 round Black Dogs.

My only complaint is that this upper is heavy. I am in the process of replacing it with a lighter Tactical Solutions unit. The Model 1 upper may be up for sale in the near future.

I just recently bought a spikes tactical dedicated .22 upper. It only took about two weeks form the time I placed the order to the time it was it my fat little hands. I have not had a chance to should it yet but I will get you a range report soon as well as some pics.
