So I bought this 1974 (I think?) Colt Huntsman. I watched a few youtube videos about it and read what I could find about it. In my reading, it was written that dry firing the gun can lead to breaking the firing pin. Okay, so I won't dryfire it but if I open and close the slide it's cocked right? So is there a way to decock the gun? Sorry if my question is remedial but I really like this gun and would like to treat it safely and keep it in good working order. Thanks for any insight!

Sell it to me cheap and you won't have to worry about it anymore [wink]

Seriously, there's no way to decock it without pulling the trigger.
If you're worried about the possibility of breaking a firing pin, use a spent .22 shell as a snap-cap.

They are a nice pistol, and will eat most any ammo.If you are going to buy extra mags make sure you spend the money and buy the Colt ones. The after market ones don't work.

i"ve had 3 woodsman's colt 22's over the years, and for practical use, I'll take a Browning Buckmark, any day.

Patron - thanks for the tip!

tryit - I like the buckmark also. Just couldn't pass on this one.

A lot of these 22s will fire slightly out of battery. To drop the hammer, try pulling the slide back slightly and pulling the trigger. With the slide retracted the firing pin won't hit the breech face.
