I am going to be applying for my LTC-A shortly and looking to join a club to get back into shooting, mostly pistol. Back in the day (pre 1998) I was a member of the Northampton Revolver Club, then moved out of state. I've been looking at web sites and I think I have narrowed it down to the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club or the Westford Sportsmen's Club. I'm sure both clubs have a great bunch of folks as members. I'm looking for how the physical plants compare. Thanks for your help!!

If Westford isn't too far, then it's a short drive to Stoneybrook in Westford,Nashoba in Acton,Littleton in Littleton and Harvard in Harvard,Littleton and Boxboro. I highly recommend Harvard. It's a very active club, especially in handgun shooting. They have IPSC,IDPA and Cowboy.

Looks like your only choices for ranges at Tewksbury are 50 feet indoors, or 50/75/100 yards outdoors. At westford you can shoot any distance from 0-25 yards on the outdoor pistol range. Tewksbury requires a range officer to shoot outdoors. I think between Tewksbury and Westford, Westford wins hands down. I may be biased as I'm a WSC member, but Tewksbury seems very limiting.

At Westford, you can shoot whenever you want (7-sunset M-S, 1pm-sunset Sunday), at whatever distance you want (0-25 on pistol range, 25-100 on rifle range, rifles allowed on pistol, pistols allowed on rifle). Indoor range is 24/7 as long as the clubhouse isn't in use. WSC has two trap fields instead of one, and also has Sporting Clays and a trout pond.

If you'd like to look around Westford, they're open to the public for trap at 1PM on Sundays and there's usually a group on the pistol range also for 'choir practice'.
