At work I wear Cargo pants. I am thinking an Ankle holster from Uncle Mikes. I am skinny and tall and trying to pocket this thing was a bit tuff. Any suggestions?

Try a slightly larger pair of pants. Being a little looser, will help hide the gun. Also, you MUST have a good inside pocket holster, not one of the cheap Uncle Mikes. Get something like the Mika or DeSantis that will keep the gun positioned well in the pocket, and looks like a wallet from the outside of your pants. Even better would be a Kramer or Milt Sparks. Quality is everything.

You have to dress for the gun, not stick the gun in what you've always worn.

An ankle holster is slow to draw from in most cases, and if you're tall, it's a long reach, unless you're on the ground.

I'm short and fat, but a size too big cargo pant will do the job for an inside the waisetband or pocket holster.

Over time you will build up a wardrobe of "carry clothes" to help you. Don't expect to just drop the gun in your pocket and have it "work" for you.

I can carry 5 or 6 J frame guns at one time and you wouldn't even know I had one.

Don't go cheap on equipment that your life depends on.

Blitz, pocket carry is a great carry. You can casually have your hand on your gun and it looks normal. It's fast and safe. It's alway in the same place and it doesn't fall out when you bend over or do some lifting.

For carrying at work, where you want maximum concealability, it's a great choice. Sound like the OP needs to hide it well.

Don't give this newbie bad info. Pocket carry may not be for you, but it works for many of us, and not "JUST FOR BACKUP".

I hear what you're saying. If I was to pocket carry it would have to be on my weak side (left) I usually leave that pocket open so I can keep it open for other things. [wink][smile]

Kev, you're a funny guy, and I appreciate that. But it doesn't help to tell people something wouldn't work just because YOU need to get access to your pocket pool set!![laugh]

No harm in learning how to carry on your "weak" side either. I do both, and after many years, equally well.

There are so many reasons for pocket carry, and fewer for the average person for ankle carry, I just wanted to give this guy an option.

I carry IWB and OWB and shoulder holster when I need to, but 99% of the time I pocket carry at least one J frame or a Kahr PM9.

It's a damn fast and effective way to carry.

I love your sense of humor, but this fellow might not know you as well as I do.[wink]

I am looking forward to hopefully meeting both of you at TVI. Would love to chat with you guys. The gentleman I got the LCR from today says Blitz can be quite funny!! [smile]

Yeah, Kev's a freakin' riot!!! Gotta love him! [smile]

It took him only two years to make 13,000 posts. If he put some of that time into practice, he'd be a hell of a shot!!!![rofl]

OK serious now.

If I pocket carry it would have to be on my left hand side, to balance out the weight, what would you suggest? I guess I could learn to fire left handed...that may be a good thing. Actually I may practice that.

Aside from that I don't need any more weight on my strong side.

I have tried everything and finally settled on pocket carry with a J frame .38 of a similar size to the LCR. It took a little getting used to, but once I finally did, I can't do the OWB or IWB anymore. Ankle carry is ok for a backup, but you run the risk of getting the gun wet and it can rub. I don't care for it myself. If you go with pocket carry, do it strong side and put everything else that you usually keep in the weak side pocket. DON'T KEEP ANYTHING ELSE IN THE POCKET WITH YOUR PISTOLA!

Exactly!

I don't know what weight you have to balance Blitz, but I put JUST the revolver in my pocket. The other side is for spare ammo and a knife and car keys. I'm less worried about being able to get to spare ammo in a pocket with a knife and car keys. My cell phone is in my shirt pocket and my wallet in my back pocket. That leaves at least on pocket empty or with a handkerchief. I also wear WOOLRICH ELITE pants and shorts, and they have extra pockets, some hidden. Like I said, it takes a while to build a wardrobe of clothes that do the job correctly, but in time I've gathered a nice collection of cargo pants, shorts and shirts made specifically for carry. If for some reason I can't carry in my pocket, THEN I will use an IWB with my Kahr.

I have a 442 holstered in a DeSantis Nemesis in my pocket right now...and I'm also happy to see you. Seriously though, it's the best pocket holster I could possibly ask for. I wear dockers at work and it disappears completely.

mine took about eight weeks last year. [crying]

it's a nice holster though.

I got one from him a couple of months ago and it only took about four weeks. It is by far my favorite way to carry my j frame.

I carry everyday with a Kel-Tec p3at in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. Summer time is hard because my attire is usually a tshirt and shorts. My build would be considered "slender" so IWB is tough. Fall is my favorite time of year for carrying.

Try the nylon pocket holster listed on the Ruger site....It's a Blackhawk size 4 pocket holster....I have one and it works great. You can use it in most style pants pockets..Also try to pick up a nylon IWB 2" holster with the metal clip (don't go with any plastic clips) ridding high up on the holster, these also work great with a LCR.......Ruger also makes a Hogue boot grip that is shorter than the regular LCR issue fingergrip, this grip has the same gel pad and makes all conceal carry better with the LCR...This boot grip seems to be only available at the Ruger site, could not find it on the Hogue site
