Contemplating Moving to a More Free State

This reminds me of the documentary Welcome to Leith, where basically an organized neo nazi group moved to a tiny North Dakota town where they had majority over current residents and started changing government because they had the votes.

There are a couple of towns in (I think) New York where Muslims moved in and did the same thing.

Totally agree... I lived outside of Memphis, TN, albeit in the mid 70's, for 2 years and loved the south and fit in great. Personally, I detest the "uppity-ness" of many of those in the Northeast with the way they look down their noses at anyone south of the Mason Dixon line (I realize that MO is above the line but they were still a slave state). MO is a strange state, not really southern, more mid-western mindset in the northern part of the state and southern mindset in the southern part. It's an interesting dichotomy within one state.

TV didn't help the cause either that everyone in Appalachia and the south are idiot hicks. I find many, if not most, southern folks kind and very hospitable (the old southern hospitality thing is very real). The fact that my wife has family there won't hurt, though they are originally from California and moved there about 18 years ago but they fit right in because they're just like those in that town...simple folk, hard workers and very conservative.

Those reality shows are an embarrassment.

I wasn't even talking about the Reality" shows which I detest! I was referring to shows like the Beverly Hillbillies, and many other shows that purportedly took place in the south...

My daughter lives in Ft. Mill. Nice little town for now. Area is growing big time and all the conviences are close.

Charlotte is a liberal bastion, but what big city isn't. The area is very much red.

I've thought of getting a good amount of land (no worrying about shooting ranges, I'll have my own) near Lancaster or maybe further northwest in the state where its a little cooler and some hills. Which i need to check out the South West corner the next time down.

I'm also on the fence about just buying real hunting land in Ohio, Kentucky, MO, or OK. Rolling oak hills is what I like to look at.

Texas and Tennessee are the two most inflow states right now........with people trying to escape libtardism, get country, and find jobs.

Fort Mill is a nice area, at least for now. That part of York County along with the northern end of Lancaster County are growing by leaps and bounds.

BTW, if you own property in SC you can get a CCW permit. Otherwise unless you live in a contiguous state, you are pretty much out of luck.

The Beverly Hillbillies made more fun of the people from California than the Clampetts. That was the point of the show. Which, BTW, was the top rated show on CBS for most of it's run. I don't know how old you are, but my generation loved and still loves the show.

I am fortunate enough to be in a situation where I could uproot my life and move. I have been heavily weighing this option over the past year with the way everything has shaken down. I know ultimately there is no escaping this new administration, but I envy seeing those that live in more conservative states for a variety of reasons.

my girl and I have talked about South Carolina. She likes it there and has always wanted to go. I am not too keen on the idea because I don’t know much about it there, I’ve been to Myrtle Beach once and I know it’s kind of prone to hurricanes.

I like Texas, but it’s flat and I hate how it seems that Californians are destined to ruin the state. Arizona seems cool, in certain areas. I love the idea of Colorado (although more blue, maybe not a good idea), Utah, or Wyoming. But again, I know nothing about the mountain region. The only part that sucks about that is I will usually like to visit the coast once a year, which wouldn’t be possible with a landlocked state.

has anyone thought the same? Where seems the most prosperous for a more free future? I am
Fairly young (30) and we don’t have plans for kids any time soon.
Californians are californicating AZ and CO as well

I am looking at Nebraska, Kansas, area...that middle of the country strip. I think places like FL, SC, TX, etc...are going to turn eventually. I don't want to have to do this twice. Already left MA to a place that turned purple.

I'm 64 and remember the BHB well...I guess I used a bad analogy but there is a lot of fun made of southerners, especially those in Appalachia, etc. There is a lot of prejudice of the southerners around and a lot of it came from old radio shows (think Lum and Abner, etc) all the way through TV in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I've been asked recently why I would want to move to an area where there's inbreeding and people that are dumber than a fence post. I know there were some jabs that were made in jest but many weren't. It just shows the ignorant are everywhere, I guess.

The people that ask that sort of question are the ones that are dumber than a stump.

Nice, and I mean that, but I want hills and more land. All of which is more expensive up here, but there are some decent buildable lots I'm looking at.
My 16 acres is one of the smallest lots on the street. I wanted more, but the house was too gorgeous to pass up.

My neighbor directly across the street has 500 acres. The neighbor to my side has 200. One up the street has 3000. Lots of hills in my area and several areas of the state.

In states with lots of new development, there are in fact more clubs being built. But not what we in New England would expect, which is a non-profit outdoor range of voting members that typically focuses on competitive shooting.

"Guntry" clubs are more popular out west and down south where its basically a private, pay range. Hell, there's a relatively new one that was built in RI recently. 150 yard indoor range for members only, FFL, various sporting goods, and upland hunting. Even a hotel and condos for members.

Those places are great, but not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a place you can just show up to, shoot, within reasonable rules, clean up your shit and lock
the gate. I shoot indoors quite a bit and it's fine but if I'm outside shooting rifles I really don't want some guy in a tower leering over me constantly.... not to mention crowded facilities make it a pain in the ass to change targets and all that kind of thing and there are tons of restrictions on the targets themselves. None of those places are going to let you throw a hockey puck on the side of a berm and blow the shit out of it..... a lot of them probably don't even allow Steel.....

I love living in SC. 2hrs to the beach, 3 to the NC mtns. 2 1/2 to atlanta. Great laws, low taxes, low home prices. People are really golly, and I say golly because everyone here to so damn fat. Most people shoot on their land here. I don't have enough to do that. I can go to a free county range, but they don't have pits and l can't run around. So I joined a private range that lets me do whatever I want.
I live in a smaller town. Has everything you need, but also has a nice quaint downtown area with restaurants, bars and shops.

Everything is just more relaxed and better down here.

That's great. I'm not shitting on you, so I don't know why you're so uppity. Home is where you're happy, you plant your ass, and you get your mail. I've lived all over the country--there are plenty of reasons I'm avoiding the south. Near you though-I wouldn't mind parts of Kansas.

When we left MA, we went to NM.
Then to AZ. Our town is 3,600 population, about 40 minutes north of Tucson proper.
I saw a bumper sticker on a car that had the outline of CA on it and it said "go home".
Now that I'm here I feel the same way about liberal MA refugees coming here for the wrong reasons....
Where in NM? And was there something specific that pushed you out of NM into AZ?

Not uppity, just extolling the virtues of the state, seeking to recruit more like minded folk

We lived in Silver City and had a beautiful place--6,500 altitude,10 acres overlooking a canyon and watching the sunsets over mountains in AZ.
Our big issue was Medical care (Gila Regional Medical Center was terrible), and as my wife and I aged, we found ourselves driving to Tucson for specialists.
I wanted to know that if I had an emergency the ambulance would take me to a hospital, not to the Med Ctr where I'd get on the helicopter and be flown to Tucson. We're really comfortable in Oracle and the culture is great, and gun friendly. And NM is changing.

Thanks, that’s what I suspected. I’ve got connections to northern New Mexico: Cimarron, Angel Fire, Eagles Nest, Taos, etc and have long considered retiring there. But like you said, if NM is going the way of CO then never mind. . .

Any of your neighbors looking to sell 50 to 100 acres?
