COSTCO - Everett MA - Emergency Food - On Sale

$19.97...they are a closeout item. They had 8 or 9 more buckets left. I scooped up 2 since they were so cheap.

Amazon's price is very inflated. Costco had them for around $60-70 each before they dropped them to closeout pricing.

Are they on year 19 of 20? [smile]

Good question...I checked and both buckets have "MFG 110612" on them. I'll guess that means Nov 6th, 2012...or maybe June 11th, 2012. Or maybe it means nothing at all. I'm going to try some of it over the weekend. Either way $20 for 200 servings was worth the risk.

I do a lot of outdoor hiking and have decent experience with the ready made foods. I took a long hard look at those when I was at the Danvers Costco. Not only for SHTF but also for camping/hunting expeditions. There are several serious concerns with those meals. The first being that each meal is extremely low in calories. There is not enough fuel in each of the meals to really keep you going. Second there is not enough nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are scarce in these meals. If you want to look at some good meals for comparison check out the Mountain House Brand. I wish they offered big value buckets like Food International.

I agree..they aren't ideal. But for $20 I figured I'd try them out. Costco had the mountain house value packs a few months back and I agree those are top notch as far as freeze dried meals go.

Yeah at 20 bucks thats a steal. Plus if you could supplement the meals with a multivitamins and other "sides" it might work out quite well. If nothing else its better than nothing during an emergency :) I might go get one just out of curiosity. Post your review of the meals here !
