Custom 1911 suggestions...

I know there are a few good people in MA who do great work on 1911's (Greg Derr, Business End Customs, Remsport, etc). Assuming I don't want to build it myself, I was curious as to what to expect in having a custom 1911 made?

Am I right in assuming that most of these folks take it from beginning to end? You tell them what you want (cal., size, features, finish, grips, etc) and in the end, you get a finished pistol? I assume it would be most cost effective to start with a frame/slide than to purchase a manufactured pistol and have it customized. I also assume that I wouldn't have to source my own parts at all...?

I'd probably prefer a 9mm and assume it would be better to start from the ground up with a raw frame and slide. I've had my eye on the S&W 1911Sc (if I decide to go .45), but to get what I want in a 9mm 1911 would be much trickier in MA (I think). I definitely want a commander-sized pistol.

Custom seems like the way to go (budget not withstanding) to get exactly what I want...

Any other thoughts or suggestions for good 9mm 1911 commander-size options (preferably bob-tailed) that are at least somewhat available in MA?

If you are having a custom gun built ANYTHING is available, there are no "MA problems" on that front. Anything you want. All you need to do is get a bare frame and then go from there.

Course, to do it right, it's not going to be cheap, so keep that in mind.
