My local Bedford, NH PD/FD Open House night had a Daisy BB Inflatable Range yesterday and it was swamped with kids for hours. The local Boy Scouts (of whatever they call themselves these days) sponsored the range and there were lines from 5pm to the 7pm close. I’m sure there were parents tsk-tsk’ing promotion of “guns” in the now Blue-leaning state of NH, but Bedford has remains more on the Red-leaning side in state and local politics. As a side-note, I saw more Teslas in one day than I’d ever seen.

I was working traffic with the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) sponsored by the PD, helping manage the large turn out in a congested parking/traffic area. Among other attractions and educational offerings, they had fire engine and police cruiser rides for kids on 3 trucks and 3 cars. It’s amazing the number of people that will calmly walk in front of an accelerating 50,000 pound ladder truck with sirens blaring and lights flashing. We had people with reflective lime vests and flashing red light wands on each side of the trucks to hold people back but some would just walk right between us.

There was only one really close call where a woman walking across the road in about the only place we didn’t have crossing guards suddenly turned to run back in front of an accelerating ladder truck - the truck swerved right, tossing everyone inside, and barely missed her. She never even looked back. DPW has some road fixing to do where the truck tires split off the roadway edge.
