Sad to say, but why change a tactic when it works?
Antis are among the most biased faction in politics. Why would they even engage in rational debate, when strawman, appeal to emotion, and false dilemma fallacies work so well to pull in tons of "educated" folks, and even worse, swamp-hopeful political candidates who lick a finger to see where the winds of public opinion are blowing from to get swept into office?
Believe me, I dislike it as much as you do, but the "national discourse" is an oxymoron. There is no discourse, no debate, and no rationality. When folks square off in "debate" it's as one sided as a Moscow show trial. It's far easier to be rarted on Twitter in 280 character increments and cite junk science studies that do not meet muster than to actually debate folks in good faith.
Why should I listen to someone who got shot as an expert in gun control? It makes as much sense as considering someone who fell out of a tree as an expert on gravity.

Yea, it is. It’s the court of public opinion, which is where policy is made.
Politicians do what they think will get or keep them in office. Very few act purely on moral beliefs.
If we want to win this “war” we have to convince those on the fence, and those who don’t care, that we’re morally and legally right.
Being seen as a group that lies and makes shit up tarnishes all our arguments, no matter how based in research and constitutional history they are.
That, right there, is why I’d assume you made something up, or misquoted someone to suit your argument, or are just a sucker repeating some lie someone told you.
So what? Be better than them.
History, logic, public policy research, and The Constitution are on our side. Use those arguments without lying.

50 years ago was 1973. Definitely. You gotta go back 65 or so years now to talk about "sensible" Americans. Of course, those same sensible Americans were trying to get anyone and anyone who might be a Commie lynched. Plus the blacks. So there was that, too. Restricting others' freedom is hard-wired into our brains. It is a defense mechanism for our own insecurities.
Lying when you don't have to... is idiotic though. We have plenty of facts on our side that we don't have to make shit up. It doesn't really take a lot of effort to do the right thing in this particular case. There's times to be devious and work the system, using made up shit in propaganda when there's easily better material available, however, is chronically dumb.

I find the mentality of the anti gun vet interesting. Vets are far more aware than the general public that whatever branch they were in can trace its lineage back to the Continental Army and America's violent birth. Furthermore, vets are often sent to places where the citizens have no right to arms and can see first hand the abuses suffered by people under an oppressive regime.
What are they thinking?

and yet here we are with progressives utilizing strategies from various communist sources to destabilize the country and the 13% is now a seemingly protected class of disproportionately violent people................................I have to admit, I do feel less secure now.
