I am going to look at a "preban" DPMS LR-308 that i have an opportunity to buy. Comes with 4 "preban" 19 round mags, according to the seller.

DPMS LR-308 with a 4 digit serial number (42XX) and no K at end. according to what I found was sold as a complete rifle by DPMS, I see conflicting info about them building rifles with non-sequencial serial numbers and just the serial does not tell if preban you have to contact them. Which just did, but it takes 6 weeks to hear back. I also saw many listings 4 digit DPMS preban rifle on the common sites for buying/selling.

Do you think this is a preban rifle?

Have you heard of preban 19 round mags? If so any info would be appreciated.

What do you think is a fair price for it? he is asking $1500. A shop near me offered me a matched set upper/lower for $1700 but his prices are high usually. He did send me a couple pictures and rifle looks nice and clean but is used. Flat top, carbine length quad rail, standard FSB and adjustable rear sights (older style), bayo lug, flash hider (not pinned) and 6 position collapsible stock. Its being sold by an FFL and is being held for me to go (95% likely) buy it tonight unless something is amiss with it.

The price doesn't seem unreasonable for a preban with preban mags considering a new unit is listed on Pullman Arms for $1355.

Well looks like the shop did not do it's homework. I got a reply from amber.

Hi Adam,

Your rifle was manufactured on 9/15/2005.

I'm not real happy with DPMS QC and wouldn't spend a lot of money on one of their rifles.

sr25 lr308 pre ban mags go for over $100 each last time I searched for them. very few of them out there also. I built a dpms sass on a QD lower, all upper parts are dpms and it cost me around $1280 plus cost of lower and around $100 in tools to do it. even with that being a post ban, still not a bad price. they are fun as hell to shoot too.
