What's your max budget on an upper?
I built a budget NES AR for about $550. I ordered a dpms upper with BCG for like $350 from Midway with the discount. The thing looks good(plain looking),shoots, and runs great. You don't need to spend alot of of cash for an AR. I for one, don't understand people spending hundreds of extra dollars for rails all over their gun, they usually have nothing on the rails.
Yup - no need to spend zillions, (unless you want to)...You can however, get your hands on an LMT M4 upper for about $485.00, or talk to John at Remsport. I can't quote his prices, but my guess is he can get you in the game for a good price.
One step ahead of ya MassMark. I contacted John this week, and he got back to me yesterday. Definetly an option, as Remsport produces QUALITY products.
being in MA we are limited in our uppers
Say what?
excluding preban lowers, the number of MA compliant uppers is relatively low in comparison to "evil" uppers with threaded barrels and bayonet lugs.
Before you do that - research some real-world reviews on Model 1 Sales....![]()
So pinning a comp and grinding down a bayo lug somehow narrows the upper pool?
ok, you apparently have some kinda problem with me or my opinion. but yes, of ready to use out of the box uppers, i feel we are narrowed. maybe i over exaggerated with "relatively low" but my point remains the same. and yes, by requiring modification to be legal people ARE limited in thier choices as they are limited by their ability to perform or pay for the modification and their willingness to do the modifications.
we could talk about modified post ban uppers or custom built uppers but, as i see it, thats not the topic at hand.
i will add that the post you seem so offended by was about the cosmetics of the Del-ton crowned barrel.
I won't excuse their poor response times during the buying craze, but they were hardly alone in that regard.
I do not use the Model 1 bolts in my rifles, however they did a great job on both my M4gery and my A4 rifle-length uppers. They were responsive and had my uppers built and shipped within 2 days of each of my orders. They're one of those companies whose past reputation has been dragged along even though they've risen above.
Good info on affordable uppers from both Del-ton and Model 1.
Now just to clear up a new-to-AR's question......I can shoot both .223 and 5.56 in a 5.56 chambered barrel? What is the advantage to a M4 feedramp?
So, why would you use a company who seems to build uppers you trust, but can't seem to pair that up with a proper bolt? If they're such a great company, with such high standards and excellent products, why do you not use their bolts? Would it not make sense that a company producing rifles, uppers and components make a product consistent with quality and reliability across the spectrum? Model 1 Sales is lucky to have you as a customer....For a small investment above Model 1 prices, one can have a properly built rifle, with properly made and scrutinized components.
