I often hear Mark II/III owners complain about how complicated it is to field strip and/ or detail strip their guns. Granted, the manual is somewhat lacking. I have watched a few videos on youtube that spell it out pretty well, however, what I was really looking for was a step by step field and detail strip (take it down to the frame) overview.

I found this site yesterday that seems to have it all with step by step instructions, and pictures that show you exactly what you need to know.

Using those steps I was able to take it down to the frame and put it all back together without an issue.

Enjoy!

I use their instructions for field stripping (almost can do it without looking...), I've resisted detail stripping so far, but it'll be handy to have good directions to do so, as I'm looking to replace some of the guts one of these days. I found these before, glad to hear they are decent and I won't be running down the wrong path :)

Field strip procedures are here:

It's not difficult. It's just not as easy as some other firearms. I detail both of mine every 3000 rounds or so. There are videos on youtube you can follow along if you wish. PM me if you get stuck and I will call you.

Someone suggested a "Ruger .22 Party" a while ago, where we get together with our bags of parts and get help putting them back together again [grin]

I've basically got field stripping down, I've never detailed stripped anything, so it is a little intimidating.

Quick question for you guys who have some experience in assembling your Mark IIIs

I did mine for the first time yesterday (jut the field strip though) - everything went pretty smoothly in the assembly, except trying to get the bolt stop pin through the receiver and the bolt - that took 15-20 minutes of pushing, pleading and swearing (not sure what worked best but it finally went in ;)

Any thoughts on why it was so hard to get in - or tips for the next time.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The first few times is tough. It helps to align the barrel and frame to get the holes aligned before putting the pin in. I gently tap the barrel back and forth with a rubber mallet until the holes are aligned.

What eisenhow said. I have the same problem and have to work the alignment with a mallet until it goes in. A little oil on the pin helps too
