Over on the milsurp section the feeling is three months or so for service grades to come back.

I am doing all the paperwork now and waiting for when/if they return as I've missed out twice now.

They stopped service grade orders in May, then opened them again at the end of August for about a month, and then stopped them again.

There are still a shit ton of Garand parts at the CMP.

There just aren't a ton of employees, and they take care in each rifle they build.

If you want one, you can still get one.

But yes to building an M1D. And getting a CMP Service grade. And....

I bought one here recently in the for sale section. There are usually a few for sale, took me 3-4 months to settle on one I really wanted.

Now and then they suspend sales temporarily to catch up. Eventually " out of stock" will mean out of stock. Anyone who has the means and the desire for one should pick one up. They wont be around forever. If it was built new today, it would be a $2k rifle.

My advice is not to beat around the bush and just buy one. You can always sell it and get your money back if you get into a financial crunch. It's a great investment. Just my $0.02.

Stay positive and when you see anything about them going back on sale, just overnight a damn letter to CMP THAT DAY! Get your paperwork ready ahead of time so you can just slap a stamp on it and put it in the box.

Keep an eye on MajSpud and Mac1911 as they always seem to be the first ones spreading the word on this stuff. Luckily, I think the sales will open up again just after christmas when no one has any money left...so if you SAVE your pennies, YOU can join the M1 Garand club. Be warned, they're addictive.

Until then you can go to Old Colony in Pembroke and shoot the fine club guns.
Hanson rod and gun also.
Or any club that has cmp shoots or matches "should" have a few loaner guns and ammo.
