So after several questions and requests for a thread detailing the modifications I have done to my Dillon 650, here it is. Feel free to ask questions, I'm sure that I am not the only one with these and if pressed, I can find links. I think.

I have some of these mods on my 550 along with a few others that are probably 550 specific. The one that caught my eye was the loaded round ejector...any more details on that one ?

I painted it flat black to cut down on the glare from the light I have installed on the 650.

Excellent post.

I have a few mods on my 650 and will add more over time. Currently I have the
- Primer shut off switch
- Indexer Bearing
- Roller handle
- Lighter spring and Teflon ball bearing under the shell plate (makes a smoother rotation and helps prevent powder spillage).
- UFO light
- Spent primer chute and hose

One thing I would like to add is a case feeder shut off. There is a part you can buy to do this but I’ll probably just make the coat hanger mod that prevents the new case from shifting into the ramp.

I find that my biggest problem with pistol cases & powder spillage is when I’m going fast, the case pops out of the shellplate slightly between 3 & 4. Then when the case gets to station 4, the button snaps it back in. I have tried quite a few mods to overcome it to no avail.

Mods that didn’t help (and made primer indexing worse):
- light spring & teflon ball
- Spill stop

I added a brush guard on mine, fixed that issue.

Genius, ordered!!

I will add it to the OP when installed, thank you.

Blue...good to see you’re putting that HP38 to work!
All great mods. About the only one I have that you don’t is a teeny plastic cap to keep unused primers from ski jumping onto the floor. Replaces the duct tape I had there before. Lol. Pricey for what it is, but I got it as part of a package from Armanov. Your primer override might negate the need for this.

Never had a problem with the shell feed.
Not really to fix an issue with the shell feed, just allows you to stop feeding shells, I used to put an old shell in the mechanism that drop the shell. This is just quick and simple, slide this back so it does not engage, slide the primer feed ramp so that does not engage. You can operate the press with out feeding any new items. Helps clear the shell plate at the end of reloading session. Do you need them? Nope, you can do all that out of the box, just makes it easier.

I prep my 223 with a Dillon trimmer 1500, i swap out the primer punch with a swager device and I have a endoscope camera in the slot 2 to inspect the brass as been swage correctly. Here’s an old post on that, has a video of one of my work colleagues with the same set up.

I have a little bottle that collects unused primers, check photo #3. HP38 will never go to waste here.

If anyone is comparing lights to buy here are a few pics of the UFO light. I like this much better that the single light that drops through the center of the tool head.

In the third picture I reversed the mounting bracket for the tool holder to give me more room directly behind the press where I mounted the switch. (Or you could just unplug it). 😉

bigblue looks to have a nice desk light above which is a good option.

I like that setup but the advantage of the little thing I have is that I can maneuver it around if needed.

I had two XL650 for years and decided to sell one and covert the other with all the upgrades to be automated already had the bullet feeder and case feeder so a Mark 7 650 auto drive was the last piece , I could not be happier .

I load pistol 380, 9, 40 , 45 and rifle 5.56/.223 and 300 Blackout .

Processing is a breeze using a Dillon rapid trim dies and a RT1200 cutter with swagger S650 and small base resizing die.

There was a learning curve broke a lot of ring indexers but so far so good working great now and my arthritis is way happier : ) .

Because of my large investment that I already had in my system and dies, it just made sense for me.
