Do you readily let others know of your gun hobby?

anyway, he wanted to know what this gun is. Anyone know? It's the poster from Man With The Golden Gun.

It looks like a .22 from the mid-1900's. I have a Colt Challenger that looks like that. It's more an artist's conception I believe than an actual gun.

that was my thinking - I thought it might have looked a little like a High Standard, but then I've never seen one IRL. And Bill, I know what a .22 Automag looks like (and a .44, too, for that matter!), and it's definitely NOT that.

Frosty might be right about the artist's conception.

Sorry Ross, but it's the poster from Goldfinger...Man with the Golden Gun came years later with Roger Moore. Probably just a brainfart...no sweat.
Right... now that you mention it, I do remember that Roger Moore was the MWTGG Bond. Hey, my wife is the James Bond nut, not me.

Personally, I find that in ALL the JB movies, there's a "disconnect" between where he gets his assignment, starts tracking the BGs, and suddenly... whammo - he's in full-bore assault mode. And I never can understand how he gets from "be wery quiet; we're hunting bad guys" to "we know where they are; let's kill them all and let G-d sort them out."

It's called "pack all the entertainment you can never mind the realism into two hours so that people will spend gobs of money to be entertained".

AKA, action movie.

I tell those that ask, have a SASS sticker on my POV, as well as a Woburn Sportsmen Club sticker.

Other than that? No, its not something I just bring up in coversation.

I was in the local pizza shop tonight and forgot I had a Four Season Firearm Tshirt on.. it's in very large print. ... I'm certainly not ashamed of my hobby by any means.. .... On one hand I want to talk to friends and others and let them know what a great sport/hobby it is. But I don't know if certain people will start riduculous rumors- which wouldn't really bother me except I have kids. What are your thoughts on this?

There are always kids' shirts:

You know, I was going to add a link to the GOAL kids pages, but I just found out that they don't have anything on their web site for kids. What's up with that? You'd think with the great emphasis they have on kids and safety and training and competition, there would be a whole CHUNK of GOAL web site set aside just for kids. Hello?

Anyhow, the point is that GOAL also offers stuff for kids. (You just can't find that out unless you know someone.)

I was in the local pizza shop tonight and forgot I had a Four Season Firearm Tshirt on.. it's in very large print. I'm sure many in my town aren't pro gun and it got me thinking... I'm certainly not ashamed of my hobby by any means.. however I'm not so sure I want everyone or anyone knowing about it. Most people I know know I shoot. I don't advertise by wearing gun clothes - especially if I'm carrying. I don't want the attention then. Same thing for having bumper stickers on my car. I don't want to be a target for unwanted attention by crooks or cops.

I do have some targets on my wall at work. They're good ice breakers with co-workers. I've found I work with a bunch of gun owners. I would never talk about carry at work. The company has a no weapons policy. Don't ask, don't tell.

I live in a good neighborhood for shooters. 1/2 the houses on my cul de sac have guns in them. My next door neighbor and I shoot IDPA and Gallery at Riverside together. The guy at the end of the street and I have gone to gun shows together. We all like beer. It doesn't get much better than that. Even my bleeding heart liberal neighbor across the street is tolerant rather than preachy.

If guns come up in social conversations I typically express my opinions. According to my wife I used to be more confrontational in expressing my views, but over the years I've mellowed. Usually guns and shooting come up after I've gotten to know people for a bit. When they discover my dirty habit they can balance that with what they already know about me. Most continue to speak to me. :) I even have had a little success in converting a few people, but most just tolerate my habit.

I have only had one uncomfortable experience. I was talking about guns in a bar with a group of people when one of them said "Are you packing now" and reached over to give me a quick pat down. I was stunned that he'd do that and didn't even know how to react. Fortunately he didn't find anything. But his actions have made me think carefully about when and how I'd want to carry.

...My boss wants me to coordinate a gun shooting field trip... my club won't allow me to bring more than one guest at a time so I'll have to work on something. ...

Ask your boss to put in a range. When I belonged to a different club, a lot of the membership came from Norton/Heald/Riley/Morgan and a few other companies who had ranges.

I wonder what companies still operate a shooting range. Maybe someone can start a new thread on that.

I do not readily speak of it. I wait till I know the person.

My wife and children know not to speak of them. It no one's business.

However when my wife was a Vet Tech, one of her co-workers saw my NRA Sticker on my car. They said "You have guns in your house?" To which she replied, "Yeah. We have knives too, but they're not in the safe."

I'm not ashamed, but the less people know the better.

If you post on gun boards, the whole world with access to the internet knows.[smile]

Actually, I don't hang around with or associiate with libtards(locked them out of my life many years ago, they are not worth the aggrivation) so any of my friends and most aquaintances either know of my interests or share the same interests.

My coworkers know(how could they not....right Adam?[wink] ) and I've actually inflenced about a dozen of them getting their LTCs.

If you read my license plates on two of my vehicles(UZISMG and UZIGAL) and can't figure it out, chances are you're clueless about guns. Those that do figure it out usually don't tailgate me on the highway.[smile]

I think it's the music, man. Like every time Bond hear that dum-badda-dum-dum theme, it's like this hypnotic switch that goes off in his brain.

I don't push my sport on anyone, the same as I don't push my views on anyone. If someone asks, I say I enjoy shooting recreationally. That's it, no further comment. I don't recall that ever happening, and I have a number of t-shirts from Beretta, H&K, and my fish and game club that I occasionally wear. Where I live, guns are a way of life, and not unusual. A t-shirt from a gun shop, fish and game club, or firearms manufacturer is no different than a t-shirt from a golf club, or a Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, or Red Sox t-shirt. They're all just sports or recreational activities, nothing more.

Except that being good at golf or football isn't very handy in a time of physical danger or crisis.

not quite

Buffalo Bill, having a Patriots, Golf, or Baseball shirt is a lot different than
a T-shirt from a gun store or manufacturer especially in Massachusetts,
and any state for that fact.

The public quickly gets the impression that you own or are carrying a gun.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't wear one but realize that you are advertising something you like or do.

my 2 cents,

JimB

I would say that it's going to vary greatly from one place to another.

If you wear a gun shirt in the deep south, the pacific northwest/west (eg dakotas, idaho, CO
(outside of denver) wyoming, arizona, etc... states, it's going to be a lot less "abnormal". People in
those areas have a LOT higher gun/capita ratio than the urban big city crap-pile-as-an-anchor states like MA,
CA, MD, etc do. Owning a gun in those locales is considered rather commonplace. A guy with a gun shirt in those place
is going to get a LOT less scrutiny than the ones you see up here. Here in MA "gun decals" in public are a rarity,
aside from a few NRA stickers on cars here and there.

In the free states people think oddly of you if you DON't own a gun... here
it's the other way around!

Ya it's funny the anti's in Mass here.

I would work the Sportsman Show(at Eastern States (Big E)) every year for my friend (Target Archery). Each day the anti's would line up out front protesting the show, they do the same thing for the Gun & Knife Show.

I feel living in MA where a large percent is anti, more exposure only helps our interests. I have a NRA tire cover on my Jeep and I have had other members approach me and start chatting firearms, so it has it's good points

That's just the point. It IS no different than any other t-shirt. You are attaching more importance on gun ownership than it deserves. It's no different than any other sport. It seems that some gun owners equate guns with the effects of Viagra. Greater manliness. It you don't think in a time of danger a golf club, baseball, etc., can be used as a weapon, come on over and assault me while I have one in my hand. A set of car keys is a forminable weapon.

I've never seen any anti's at the Big E. Where are they?

Me three, but then again I'm driving thru gates that have cops directing traffic, so they wouldn't tolerate any disruptions at those locations.
