Does the UPS truck pick up ammo? How to ship by UPS without going to service center: GunBroker sellers are making a fortune

That's not even what I'm talking about- you want to make $500 on a case of ammo and you're not even willing to get a UPS account? (or do whatever it takes to get one)?
I have a UPS account. I can arrange a driver come to my house.

Some people say the driver can pick up ammo, some say they can't.

If you call UPS Customer service - you get a different answer depending on who you talk to.

Same thing with Staples.

The store people have one answer and the customer service on the phone have another answer.

If you call back the same number and have a totally different person answer - they will also have a different answer.

I have to wonder how UPS is handling this in the western mass area with the closure of the customer care center at the West Springfield depot/hub. I used to drop packages off at the depot, but now you have to use the UPS store further down the Riverdale road. I shipped back a couple of cases of steel case 5.56 like 7 years ago to the people I bought it from online because they were supposed to ship me 7.62x39 who after some phone calls shipped me the correct ammo.
Holy Crap!!! The HUB is West Springfield is closed!!! Where the heck can I go? I don't think the UPS Store takes ammo or guns.
Although, my local UPS Store said there is a service center in South Hadley. I'll check on that. 1 hour round trip from me.

Go to a Sporting Goods store and ask if they have any empty dumbbell boxes...

You should be able to covertly ship up to 1,000 rounds of .45 in it...

Its pretty clear here how to ship ammo.
Sorry link wont work?
Unless things changed unless your ups account has scheduled pick ups calling and asking for a pick up will cost you more $ and they do not accept ammo or ORMD on the on call pick up.
Things constantly change.

Lol its not hazmat dude there is no reason they can't pick it up. You're overcomplicating this, the only thing you need is the limited quantities label ScottS duscusses earlier in the thread. Ground, dims, weight, shipping label, that funny label which replaced orm-d, pickup, done.

This is absurd and smacks of socialism.

If you are unhappy about the price a vendor is asking for a product you can exercise your right to not buy the product.

Reptile is doing what any smart businessman would do. Minimize costs of doing business, including labor, time, packaging, and shipping. He is also smart to identify the best market to offer his product. EVERY SUCCESSFUL SALES BUSINESS follows these basic practices.

Chris

Don't worry, this guy is going to be selling his house for exactly what he bought it for 30 years ago, otherwise he would be a hypocrite.

Everybody is so quick to pile on they don't think before they type lol

Lol I’m not a fan of most flippers but this is top 10 communist post on NES. [rofl]

Also -1000 for improper use of skinflint. Being lazy has nothing to do with flinting.
I wasn’t using skinflint as lazy. I was using it as being too cheap to give up the extra money by just selling it locally. But I failed in any event. I stand chastened.

Scheduled pickups are a fee based option.

I have a UPS account but have to either subscribe for regular pickups or buy them a la carte if I want that service, though you can always hand a package to a driver and they will accept it (not sure about ammo or hazmat though)

Right thats what i was getting at. Ups driver is at my shop making deliveries almost daily but we cant ship anything with out paying a fee. Also the label has to be from the business. Both the driver and UPS told us that to ship ammo we had to have a contracted regular pick up. A small machine shop sadly now closed (moved to texas) would help me out shipping ammo .

How do I get my local driver to stop by my house and pick up outgoing ammo?
The UPS service center is 45 minutes away and not worth the drive.
Ammo being sold on GunBroker is going for a fortune and it's all getting bought up.
your looking at it the wrong way.
how much ammo are you trying to unload?
1000 round cases?
So a 1.5 hour drive is not worth $300-500 ?
make a day of it. Plan stops to all the shops along the way. Hit up some new places to eat.
list all your auctions to end on the same day same time. Fridays 11pm are good as it gives you a few days to print labels and pack the vehicle. Drive to ups center and drop off then enjoy the day.
Or say f*** it haul your ammo to local gun club and sell it out of your trunk!

LOL.

The username is apparently appropriate to the user.

Note the the following comment: "YOU should be willing to get less money whilst serving your local compatriots".

Let me guess - somebody is now feeling a little bit left out because they didn't bother to go out and buy guns and ammo back when it was cheap - because they felt they had better things to do with their money at the time - than spend it on guns and ammo?

No. Way off the base.

I'm absolutely sure he's serious - these types come out of the woodwork and start whining each and every time the price of guns and ammo start going thru the roof.

In case your universal translator is broken, what he's really saying is: " I failed to prepare when times were good - and now I'm going to blame that lack of preparation on somebody else because my ass is puckered up so tight because of what might be coming and I'm so screwed now that I can't find any better solution than to start blaming other people for my predicament"
Wrong dad.

I used to have a regular UPS driver and knew where he parked for lunch every day. More than once I would stop by and pick up a package that I missed or hand him an outgoing package. I once asked him if I could give him an outgoing gun to ship and he said yes. I don't think that I ever did it however, I did use the depots which weren't far out of my way. Keep in mind this was almost 20 yrs ago however when I was buying a number of mil-surp C&R rifles and he knew that the cartons contained rifles. He was a really nice guy.

Now I have no idea who the drivers are, UPS closed the customer service location in Dedham and I'm only having things shipped to NH these days. No idea where UPS or FedEx are located in the Nashua area, but I haven't had a need either.

Ok here is a real conundrum:

"Cartridges, small arms may be shipped only through a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account using various UPS pickup services , or through a UPS Customer Center (counters at UPS operational facilities)."

It says UPS Scheduled Pickup Account.

That means a regular account holder can't ship.

I chatted with UPS customer service. She gave me the number for UPS Hazmat which is what ammo falls under.

Smaller than .50 and less than 66 lbs. Ground.

I called UPS HazMat:

1-800-554-9964

I talked to two different ladies and they both said that the info on the UPS website is a MISTAKE. She offered me the number for the US DOT to confirm.

They said (UPS HazMat) you DO NOT need to be a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account.

She said that only drivers and Customer Support Centers can pick up.

Only locations are Pittsfield and Chelmsford. West Springfield is closed for Covid. Each of those places are 2+ hours round trip.

The HazMat ladies said that you need to new special diamond sticker and the driver will take it.

So, that narrows things down.

No CVS locations, no Staples, no UPS store, no Access Points, no drop off locations.

UPS website says drivers CAN'T accept unless you have a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account.

UPS HazMat says drivers CAN accept even if you don't have a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account.

Clear as mud.

I have a scheduled delivery tomorrow from UPS so I'll ask the driver what he says.
If he has a choice he should say no because ammo is heavy.

If the driver says no - FedEx Customer Service Center is 1 hour round trip and I HAVE sent guns from there.

Well there you go
Ammo is not hazmat
Primers and powder are

its been a while since I shipped anything.
UPS picked up my Rifle from my work and shipped it of to LRB to fix another manuactures crappy machine work on the safety bridge. Just had to tell the driver it was a firearm, he laughed and said just a box to me. Same driver said I could not ship ammo unless we had a “contract”

anyhow its not hard , your going to drive no matter what, to ship it or meet up local , might as well ship it out through gun broker.

I highly recommend USPS money orders for payment if you can still do that

Please read the rest of my above post.

UPS website says driver CAN'T pick up cartridges unless you have UPS Scheduled Pickup Account.

UPS HazMat department says driver CAN pick up cartridges and that the website is a mistake.

Unless you have such an account and the driver comes to your place EVERY day you don't qualify.

But, UPS HazMat department says that is a mistake on the website.

I want to see the regulation in writing.
I see it in writing and it says the driver can't accept from me.

Just for shits I looked into this not long ago. Apparently a easy work around is to prime cases as they're no longer hazmat. Primed 9mm is going for about $25/100 right now on GB.

Ask them for the copy of the regulations the hazmat branch is refering to.
Like I said last I tried to ship ammo from my shop by handing it to the driver he said no once he had seen the label.

this is what you do box up some ammo make the label through your UPS account and add a pick up to it. When the driver comes hand it to him and see what happens

for 2021 the label has changed its mo longer “small arms “ label but now a generic blanket label - for lack of a better description

this was the required sticker last time I shipped ammo

Orm-D is done. Its "limited quantities" label posted earlier.

It is NOT hazmat! [rofl]

All set!

My guys will pick up small arms with the white diamond and block top and bottom sticker.

Nothing sneaky.

The website is wrong and the UPS HazMat ladies at the HazMat call center were right.

Well...after 84 posts in this thread, how about a concise write up of how to do it?
You’ve done the leg work, now care to share your information? (Information you came here looking for, ie one of the many points of NES, information sharing). Perhaps a post # linked in the OP or title saying what post it is in. Or update your OP with the answer to this question to help others in the future. I don’t live too far from you and always just go down to Windsor locks hazmat shipping site. But if you’ve unlocked home pick ups without being an ffl, I and I’m sure others are all ears, Chris.

I updated the first post with a summary. 🧐

I only accept USPS Money Orders.

Keep in mind for anyone wishing to sell ammo on GB that there are many states that are excluded.

Also note, I can restrict buyers with no feedback as many of them are non paying.

Lots of ammo is sold to non payers which requires a re listing and aggravation.

What ever happened to Don't ask Don't tell, I drop heavy packages off at Staples weekly, a box is a box.
Just be aware that the penalties got WAY up if the ammo is shipped by air because it is not labeled properly. I know of a case where a significant fine (5 digits) was imposed because a package broke en-route and ammo spilled out.
