For 100 more you could get a smith and wesson or the new ruger. Those come with backup sights and a decent warranty. Not sure about dpms' warranty. I just completed a kiss build for under 650. Built the lower and purchased a complete upper from BCM. That included the compliance work and carry handle sight. Bcm costs more but you get a lifetime warranty and quality parts.
was thinking of the sw mp also, but for an entry, $500.00 leave more for ammo
anyone have experience w/ a dpms, again, just looking for an entry ar15
not looking to break the bank
thx
Well if it's chambered in .223 that limits your ammo selection. Right now is a good time to build an ar, you can get a bravo company for just a couple hundred more. If I were you I'd save up a little more, get a better quality ar, rather than just going for an "entry level"
your still going to need sights or optics? I know two shooters with the older dcm/cmp model and they are chambered in 223 I don't think dpms has made thedcm model in several years. I know one shooter would have jams when shooting m855.
I have what started out as a DPMS AP4 Carbine. It's been pretty reliable over seven years and several thousand rounds. I say "pretty reliable" because this summer I started having malfunctions. However, I found that the failures were due to a missing gas ring and a worn out extractor. Less than $10 in parts later, I had it back up and running. Ive been happy with it. I hope that helps.
I have had a DPMS Panther for a few years.
It has been reliable and quite accurate with Radway Green ball ammo.
The factory trigger was nasty so I replaced it with a Jard trigger.
I did find it odd that the gun has no front sling swivel ?????
I installed an Uncle Mikes shotgun swivel on the barrel.
I would buy it again if I wanted a factory built rifle and if the price was right.
I would not buy the Jard trigger again as it is fussy to adjust and I've had a few light strikes with ball ammo.
