(NECN: John Moroney: Pelham, N.H.) - The Major Crime Unit for the New Hampshire State Police is investigating the death of a 21-year-old man. He was shot by officers this morning after leading them on a motor vehicle chase from Lowell, Massachusetts.

The suspect has been identified as Alberto Pagan of Dracut, Massachusetts. Authorities say he was involved in a domestic assault in Lowell early Saturday morning. Police from Massachusetts and New Hampshire then chased Pagan - throwing down spike strips along the way and shredding the tires on his black four-door sedan.

At one point in time, police were able to stop the suspect on Route 38 in Pelham. They tried get him to give up. He refused and got back into his car. They were able to stop he again on Hobbs Road. And that's when the suspect allegedly got out of the car and confronted officers with a gun.

"He was armed with his handgun, would not drop his handgun. And as he approached those officers, those officers shot and killed him," said Strelzin

Ya right around the corner from Pelham F&G. It sounds like the cops tried everything to resolve the situation without this outcome. I'll check the Pelham message board and see what the locals are saying.

The Pelham PD are pretty reasonable guys, I don't know what other agencies got involved.

Since Dracut and Lowell are notoriously red, chances are he was carrying in MA and NH without the benefit of local or state permitting.
