I love .357 sig.
I love my compact 1911.

Why can't they make sweet love and give me the baby I want?

Specs:
- 3" barrel
- .357 sig
- officer size frame
- bobtail

Anyone know if this is even possible?

Anyone know of someone in MA who can make this happen?

thanks.

It's possible but it just seems like a dumb idea. Why go through all that when you can just get a 10mm Auto built? It's gonna have exactly the same
capacity, be just as stupidly expensive to feed (although 10mm Auto is easier to reload than .357 Sig) and have better terminal ballistics to boot.

That said, I would call Lou @ Business end... he would know if it is even possible or worth the time to do it.

It is possible, but a 1911 in .38 super would provide similar ballistics and higher capacity. (And probably feed better.)

Now make it a 9x25 Dillon and we're talking. [grin]

I like .357 sig as well but it's niche and I doubt anyone would make one production. Maybe sig who has something invested in the caliber but you never know. Given the number of G33s up for sale lately, I suspect there are few who actually appreciate the power of this cartridge.

I'm a big 357sig fan myself. Sig is coming out with 4 1911s chambered in it, I know at least 1 is already out. 1911s and 38 super go hand in hand but from my research 38 super is closer to +p 9mm than 357sig. The only issue with the spec you want is barrel length. 357sig relies on velocity to make its magic happen. I don't know that a 3" barrel would idea. I would say 3.5 minimum, otherwise you will probably just be at +p 9mm velocities.

Sig doing dumb shit in an attempt to get people to notice a good cartridge. I doubt it will work.

The .357 Sig is a good, if under-appreciated, cartridge for platforms designed around the .40S&W, but it's a waste in platforms that can handle longer overall lengths. Better choices for 9mm bullets in a 1911 platform IMHO would be .38 super (which has already been around forever,) 9x23, or even 9x25.

Skip .357 Sig in a 1911. Get a 10mm instead. It is easy to reload and very flexible. You can from 135 gr to 220 gr. I've got some Buffalo Bore 220gr hard cast at 1175 fps.

If you want a .357 sig 1911, build it. 357 sig is a great round if you reload, and can be very potent.

Not as potent as 9x25, and if you have that much room for OAL why not use it?

The dillon is an excellent round, no doubt. but if i recall they were a bit tougher on their guns. if you really want a popular hot 9 buy a commander size 1911 in 38 super. just do it like nike!

Or, you can go for the .357Sig's big brother, the 400 Corbon or 440 Corbon. I don't recall this second, but I'm fairly certain the 400 is a drop-in barrel, and everything else just works the same. Reloading is your best bet with this. The bottleneck cartridge is supposed to feed better than the 10mm straight wall, but do your own research. I'm sure the naysayers will be along shortly.

Buy a 40S&W set up the way you want it. Then go to a Gunsmith and have them re-chamber a well made 9MM barrel or buy a 357SIG barrel. It is do able. Then get in touch with me and I will give you some brass [smile] I shoot the round in three different guns and also reload it and have for some time.

I am waiting for Sig to make an AR in the caliber and word is it is not far down the road

I'll take "answers to questions nobody asked" for $1,000. [rofl]

Now a small PDW specifically designed around .357 Sig and you have my interest.

Talk to John Lawlor at Remsport. He'll tell you what is and isnt possible. I have a 357 sig bbl for my Fusion 10mm 1911 govt. I wanted to maximize the cost of my ammo...

Short 1911 guns are a problem right from the start no matter what caliber and the 3" is even more of a problem to get to run reliable. It is in the nature of the 1911 design. The 1911 can be built in 357sig it is a problem round to get to feed correctly and takes some extra work, is magazine sensitive and will never be completely reliable and as a 3" I'm not sure you can get it to run. I have built a few 5" guns in this caliber with some success, however a slightly loose or improper grip while shooting and the gun will jamb. You can not limp wrist a 1911 in this caliber.

This is exactly the reason why you don't tend to see this combination. Sure, they can build it for you, but getting it to run reliably is another thing altogether, and that part is all on you.

Well it's not exactly small, but Troy over at Barrel Exchange will whip you up a .357Sig Uzi barrel. It's drop-in - even the mags still work. I think the 25rd mags will hold 16 with a little tweaking of the follower... Also available in 10mm - which I think would be pretty interesting...

I did my research and it seems like a short barrel is a bad idea for .357 sig. So let's throw 3" barrels out the window.

What I've landed on and what the good people at fusion firearms are doing for me (from COTS parts they already have) is a 1911 CCO in .357 sig.

i'll post pics in 23 weeks when it's finished.

Supposedly my barrel had a mark after test fire and they sent it back for another round of dlc.

Hopefully before christmas . . . . . .
