Has anyone had to drift their front sight of the M&P Shield?

Long story short I got my shield fixed by S&W because it was dropping mags and I had them look at the sight that was off center. I am certian that they did not test it for correct sight placement. All they did was place it in the center.

Anyway... now it is way off and needs to be drifted to the left. I have tried using a brass punch but it wont budge. Someone suggested that I have to push it out all the way to the right and then start over inserting from left to right and stopping where I need to.

Any thoughts?

I swapped mine out for night sights, and even though I was using a gunsmith's sight TOOL.. those sights were some of the TIGHTEST I have dealt with, ever. They sucked.

go to CVS and look for can of freeze off wart remover. (no idea what the actual product name is) It has a cotton tip that cools to -270, place it on the sight for a bit and it should be a lot easier to move.

which night sights did you choose?

There wasn't much if anything out specifically for the Shield (I don't know is there is now even) but a ton of people reported that the full size M&P sights fit on the Shield's slide but they take up the whole slide width. I took the chance and got the Trijicon HD night sights and they fit and look great. I have always been a traditional low pro night sight guy from many many Glocks, but these babies are NICE.

These are them here: http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product1.php?id=HDNS

I got the YELLOW front sight version for the M&P: http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=SA137Y

Where are you? I have a MGW M&P sight tool tat some on the S&W forum says works on the Shield. I'm in eastern/northeast Mass.

Why not adjust/drift the rear sight? This is usually much easier.

Im pretty sure that the rear sight is not adjustable (according to the book it came with it should never be adjusted, only the front)

I'm just outside worcester... not sure this will fit in a normal M&P sight tool. I had a guy at First Defense in Uxbridge try it and he said it would mark it up pretty bad since it did not fit too well. I'm not sure if the one he had was specifically for M&Ps though.

The rear sight seems like it would hang off the edge if it were to be drifted one way or the other. Slide is only .9" wide, the rear sight basically covers the whole thing. I was thinking of trying to pop it out then file) a little bit and see if I can then punch it to the far left. thing is pissing me off, its not too far off but I cant stand it. At 35ft it shoots 4-5" left (multiple people tried it

The Shield has the same sight cut as a full sized M&P except that the rear sights have small ears that hang over the sides of the slide a tad, two quick cuts in the mill and done.or you can hand file them. Removing sights is not about the hammer or drift, but about the holding. If the slide is not secure all the energy from the hammer and drift are lost. I never use the sight tools, since they all break.

I had it in a vice and gave it some pretty good hits, not comfortable hitting it any harder. Even bent the heck outta one of the brass punches.

Send it back.

sent it back once for the mag drop issue (fixed) and they adjusted the front sight to the center without checking to see if it should even be there. When I bought it, it was drifted left and I asked them to investgate whether or not that was the right spot and they just moved to center. Should have not said anything but I figured they would know what they were doing.

I just bought a new 9mm shield and it does seem to be pulling towards the left. I didn't know if it was me (because I'm still a newbie), but then I did notice that the sights are off center. How can I check to see if its me or the sights?
