PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A dead science teacher, weapons of mass destruction, first responders in hazmat suits and the Ohio Army National Guard all near the Municipal Stadium in Portsmouth, Thursday. There's no cause for alarm -- this is just a drill!
The mock disaster training exercise is being done with Scioto County first responders and the Ohio Army National Guard 52nd Civil Support Unit.
"It's the reality of the world we live in," says Portsmouth Police Chief Bill Raisin. "Don't forget there is such a thing as domestic terrorism. This helps us all be prepared."
The make-believe scenario is timely. Two school employees who are disgruntled over the government's interpretation of the Second Amendment, plot to use chemical, biological and radiological agents against members of the local community.

And here comes the ramp up. Second amendment supporters are terrorists. DHS was for us all along.

I don't give them that much credit for being that clever. I've known some people involved with these kinds of drills who come up with the scenarios and such. Most of the inspiration comes from news stories over the past couple months and a healthy dose of "this is what I think the plot of the next Tom Clancy novel should be". Not nefarious plotting, though it isn't safe to assume for a second that the systems and procedures put into place through this sort of thing couldn't be misused in a heartbeat.

It's stories like this that imprint in the public's mind who the threat is. The ruse about Al-Qaeda was all to move this system into place, create a public that cried for more security, and payed for it with tax dollars.
