Brockton, MA *Found Body* Oak St @ DW Field PKWY. SVCS O/S For A Water Rescue. Person Found DOA In The Water. ME Req To Scene. 4:40pm

Note; This being Brockton, it's possible it wasn't a drowning, more likely it was a murder victim tossed into the water.
He was trying to swim with his hands tied behind his back?

Especially true in that location. Swimming is not allowed there and hasn't been in 30+ years.

File this under, always blame the electrician without any evidence!!

Heard about this the other day, alleged electrocution of a family in an above ground pool!! Horrible. Searched my mind as to how it could possibly happen....tough for stray voltage to leak through a pool liner. Maybe the GFI breaker failed and then the metal coping somehow became energized and the pool water was grounded as it should be?? Nope, not electrocution. Dead due to not knowing how to swim. I’m sure it’s still somehow my fault for being white....

A few years back I read about a sailor that fell off the deck of an aircraft carrier. He was in the water for over 20 hours before he was rescued. He said he kept himself afloat by taking off his pants and tying knots at the end of the legs. Every once in a while he would flip them up into the air and he would catch an air bubble in the pants.

Their are plenty of Navy vets on this forum, does the Navy teach you this, or did this guy come up with it on his own?
I was in 1968 to 1972, and you had to jump in fully clothed (in A pool) and make flotation from your clothes in boot camp.

It used to be taught as part of Red Cross swimming lessons back in the seventies. I think it was part of the Jr. Lifesaving class. So 15 to 16 year olds.

So you got everything, ah, but nothing's cool
They just found your father in the swimming pool
And you guess you won't be going back to school
Anymore

Although it doesn't specifically say the victim has drowned, it does say it's a recovery operation, not a rescue.

This stretch of river has claimed 4 lives this year and a couple of live rescues...it's a placid part of the river but there are strange under currents in some areas. This part of the river is behind my house and downstream a bit.

EDIT: Just found out that the drowning in the link above was a local high school kid that my wife taught in middle school. She's taking it pretty hard.
