EFK Firedragon

Revenge is sweet. I've been waiting for this for 3 years.

I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company in my entire life.

1) unanswered phone messages
2) unreplied emails
3) a barrel with the bore so off center that it would have definitely resulted in a baffle strike.

I'm going to try to dig up my old email thread with them and past into this thread.

First email after I discover bbl is not right on 7/29

Dear Sirs,

I am following up on a phone message that I left for you on Monday. Just in case you did not get my message, I will start from the beginning.

I received my barrel related to the below order a couple of months ago. I never used it because I was waiting on a form 4 transfer of a suppressor. Thats why I purchased a threaded barrel from you. Last week I received the suppressor and went to my shooting area to test things out.

It was the first time that I really examined the barrel since receiving it.
Before even putting it in the gun, I noticed that something was not right. The bore was not concentric to the exterior of the barrel. It was off by enough so that it was obvious to the eye.
I wasn't sure if it would be a problem, so I pushed a snug fitting dowel through the barrel then attempted to thread on the suppressor.
This exercise confirmed my fear, that the barrel was far enough out of true that it would cause a baffle strike if used with a suppressor.

After this was done, I thought I would at least function check the bbl in the gun. I dropped the barrel into place and reassembled my Glock 34. It went together just fine
and cycled well by hand. I carefully loaded 1 round into a mag and racked the slide. The slide refused to go into battery. I disassembled the gun and tested the chamber. A round fit in just fine.
Without measuring it, it seems the chamber is sized correctly.

So, how can we deal with this problem? There are 2 things that would make me happy.

1) refund my money and I will send the barrel back. I would prefer this, since I've kind lost faith in your product. This thing is WAY off. I'm amazed it was not caught by QC.

2) Replace my barrel. I'm willing to try this, but refuse to wait the 4 months it took to get me the barrel in the first case. If you can't get me a replacement in 2 weeks, then I'd like my money back.

I am hoping we can resolve this to both of our satisfaction. I've spoken with (I hope I get the names right) both Frank and Frankie. You seem like good people who are struggling to keep up with an overload of work. But that does not change the fact that 6 1/2 months after I gave you folks over $230 of my money, I don't have a barrel that works.

Please feel free to reply via email or telephone.

Best regards,

Dear Sirs,

I am following up on messages that I have left you on:
Monday , July 27 (voicemail)
Wednesday, July 29 (email)
Friday, July 31, 2009 (voicemail)
Monday, August 3, 2009 (voicemail)
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 (email, see below)
Thursday, August 6, 2009 (voicemail)

If you read the below email, you can see that I would like to get this resolved as quickly as possible. I eagerly await your response. If I do not hear back from you by end of business on Monday, August 9 2009, I will put the barrel in the mail to you and contact my credit card company to dispute the charges.

I don't want to do that. Like I said below, I've spoken with you on the phone and you seem to be very nice folks. But I've got to at least hear back from you. Its been over a week since my initial attempts at contacting you.

Best regards,

Another week went by and I called my CC company. They attempted to reach EFK to clarify and after they also received no response, did a charge back.

At that point they called me and agreed to a refund.

So . . . in summary. Its a poorly run business with an inferior product.

I eventually purchased a KKM barrel and am amazed with the quality. Ive also since purchased a lone wolf and it is fine. Not in the same league as the KKM.

Some of the beauty of a forum like NES: Avoiding BAD vendors.

A comment regarding Lone Wolf:

Decent quality, horrendous customer service. We have an 'ongoing' group buy for 'populated' custom Glock frames and they have been jerking us around for months now. Shipped a small portion a couple days ago with a grossly overblown shipping charge. All the while Lone Wolf has been shipping smaller orders (at their full retail, of course) received much later than ours. Everyone on the GB feels badly for the organizer who is stuck dealing with the mess. I recommend avoiding them for screwing over your fellow NESers.

For top notch quality, check out Storm Lake. They have been around for many years, quietly serving competitive shooters before the internet opened up the mass market. Good people & fantastic product. http://www.storm-lake.com/products/barrel/builder/

I bought a EFK dragonfire barrel in .357 sig caliber for my Sig 226/40.
It was not well made. It had headspace issues and the rifling appeared to have been done by drunken monkeys.
They did eventually replace the barrel with one that was slightly better.
I decided to take the loss and move on.
EFK, Lone Wolf, and a couple other purveyors of handgun barrels are apparently buying their barrels from some second-rate manufacturer in Korea.

If you are buying a barrel that is a bunch cheaper than a BarSto, you're probably going to be disappointed.

Wow...I am so glad I asked! Thanks for the replies. So I'm looking for a ported barrel for My P30L, does anyone know of any other makers? I have KKM barrels on my glocks but they don't make barrels for HK guns.

At the time I bought the EFK, they were advertising that their barrels were finished in-house on wire edm machines, producing an absolutely polished finish. I have tools and parts made on wire edm machines and they are beautiful.

What I got was very nicely finished. But massively out of spec. Like the clamped the barrel to the tool crooked.

Re Barsto - I had one fitted to a 1911 I owned and it was a great product. After buying 2 KKM barrels I'd put them in the same league as BarSto. The one I use the most is a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel in my G35. Its a great shooting gun and is more accurate than my 34. Its also been absolutely, totally, reliable despite a noticeably tighter chamber than the OEM G34 barrel.

I use the 34 and 35 for practical shooting and all my 9mm ammo used for practical matches goes through a Lee factory crimp die (which post sizes the entire round) so that probably helps with the reliability. (while probably hurting accuracy)
