eHow Genius: The difference between .38 and 9mm

My favorite part

The speed of standard bullets ranges between 600 and 5000 feet per second. The calculations may seem low for both the 9mm and the .38, but they are not high-powered rifles, but small handguns. The 9mm round comes from a higher-pressure round than the .38, so its velocity is considerably higher than the .38's, ranging up to a level of 1500 feet/second, while the fastest of the .38 models, the Super, can only be measured at up to 1215 feet/second.

That write-up reminded me of a Mark Twain short story:

The guano is a fine bird, but great care is necessary in rearing it. It should not be imported earlier than June or later than September. In the winter it should be kept in a warm place, where it can hatch out its young.

It is evident that we are to have a backward season for grain. Therefore it will be well for the farmer to begin setting out his corn-stalks and planting his buckwheat cakes in July instead of August.

Concerning the pumpkin. This berry is a favorite with the natives of the interior of New England, who prefer it to the gooseberry for the making of fruit-cake, and who likewise give it the preference over the raspberry for feeding cows, as being more filling and fully as satisfying. The pumpkin is the only esculent of the orange family that will thrive in the North, except the gourd and one or two varieties of the squash. But the custom of planting it in the front yard with the shrubbery is fast going out of vogue, for it is now generally conceded that, the pumpkin as a shade tree is a failure.

Now, as the warm weather approaches, and the ganders begin to spawn--

Well she is sort of right. The 38mm Glock issued to police would be specially made.

Ah, content farms. Lots of content, lots of key words, lots of page views, lots of ad revenue.

Uhhh... What?!?!?

"Size

The diameter of the .38 bullet is usually between .356 to 0.358 inches. The 9mm bullet can be a bit larger in diameter at .3555 to .3565 inches. At 9/19mm, the 9mm is considerably shorter than the bullet for the .38, by about 2/3 of the length. However, the 9mm is a heavier bullet. Measured by units of mass, the 9mm weighs between 88 and 147 grains, depending upon whether it has a jacketed hollow point or a silver-tip hollow point. The .38 Special Jacketed Hollow Point can weigh as little as 110 grains, while the Lead Semi Wad Cutter can range as high as 158 grains."

Did she even read this?

Doesn't that mean the 38 is bigger?

"the 9mm is a heavier bullet..... 9mm weighs between 88 and 147 grains,
.38 Special.. can weigh... .110 grains.... as high as 158 grains."

What scale does she use?
The same scale she uses to weigh the dope she's smoking apparently..

It's nonsense, and just a collection of keywords to drive traffic. The web is becoming a library with every possible book, and, as such, is becoming a library with no information. It seems like any attempt to find a product review or even basic knowledge is made arduous by the endless attempts to collect clicks in exchange for offering just the right collection of keywords. All of this is why forums are so useful and why, just for example, people here post questions about non-gun related topics. The repeated interactions here build a form of reputation. That, with moderators doing a lot of work, makes the information here (at times, imperfect, of course) so much better than the typical results of a google search. In recent years, I think the idea of using search to learn something has taken a huge hit. Now google is just a noisy index, and where you go to try to track down a reputable source. Most of what you get is garbage.

I love the path where this article resides:

Home--> Home Maintenance & Repair--> Home Water Quality--> Test for Hard Water-->Differences Between .38 Special and 9mm Bullets

I wonder what the test for soft water would bring up...

Airsoft.

That is interesting. I have been wondering why the quality of Google searches has gone way down. It just seems like endless aggregated shopping and crap links.
