less than 3 years old. seems very odd, never seen this before. Probably about 1.5K rounds through it. only WWB and Federal 9mm, no +P or +P+ in this or any of my handguns. WTF??

That looks like the firing pin stop plate. Clean out the firing pin channel, its probably full of crap that is causing the firing pin to stick, put the plate back on

Are you sure you have that pistol assembled correctly? I can see the barrel lugs in front of the racked slide in the second picture. I've never seen any 1911 rack back far enough to reveal the lugs.

On officer sized 1911, the slide is so short that the lugs are exposed

thanks, will do. have you or anyone else experienced this?

I have had the firing pin stick at a match because of primer flow, I now use an oversized firing pin. At 1500 rounds, the firing pin channel needs cleaning, make sure the pin and spring are in good shape

thanks guys. this is my only "1911", just trying to learn a bit here......so a dirty firing pin channel could cause this to come off how? thanks

in the pic you can see how the firing pin is forward, this is bad, something isn't allowing it to retract. crap in the channel, broken or bent firing pin. the firing pin holds on the firing pin plate, if the pin doesn't retract, the plate can slide off.
