By AWR Hawkins

On December 14, 2017, CNN’s Jim Acosta claimed America has witnessed “1,552 mass shootings” since the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School.
This means Acosta is claiming an average of approximately 310 mass shootings a year for each of the past five years.

It is important to note that he attempts to bolster this claim via information provided by a tracking site sponsored by gun controllers. That tracking site–the Gun Violence Archive–diverges from FBI definition of a mass shooting as four fatalities or more in one incident so as to include shootings in which no fatalities occur.

Acosta tweeted:

Great read (as usual) by Hawkins. Thanks for posting.

My fave part as I enjoy analogies:

Think about it this way–It is easy to swell the number of car accidents recorded for a given year if butterflies hitting the windshield are counted as an accident. Moreover, it is easy to swell the number of falls recorded every year if stumbling without actually falling is counting as a fall nonetheless.

The left are a bunch of liars and propagandists that do whatever it takes to push their agenda.

The first 13 incidents on that list do not meet the FBI criteria for mass shootings. This guy is a DB......

I don't even think the FBI's definition is very good but IDK how I'd word it better. Maybe four or more innocent fatalities? Or people unknown to the shooter?
I can see a drive-by hitting 4 bystanders being included but I can't see a gang hit like a "valentines day massacre", etc being included.

And even though I shouldn't have to say it: Nobody should care if it's a shooting. Stabbings, vehicular attacks, bombings, and the like should all have the same weight. It's just easier to ban the killy thingys than knives, pickup trucks, and plumbing supplies.

Media outlets and the rest of the disarmament lobby opt for Shooting Tracker or Gun Violence Archive figures because they are more dramatic. Many major media outlets continue to use Shooting Tracker despite the fact the person on Reddit who came up with it admitted to what it is.

They meet Jim Acosta's criteria.

Hell, I shot a few targets at the range last Monday. I see it listed as one of the latest mass shootings on that list.

According to stopgunviolencenow dot netcomorg there have actually been 3,998,247 mass shootings since Sandy Hook. These are of course verified mass shootings meeting strict scientifically rigorous criteria; unverified numbers reach into the billions so the real number is likely much higher.

seems to me the biblical cutting off tongues of liars might not be such a bad idea.

we need a public list of liars with evidence attached. It's a basic journalists' responsibility to fact check, so peddling these lies for whatever reason is wrong.

I was in a debate in junior high on the raising the speed limit to 65. I was on the pro 65 side. There was barely any data on it since most of the country was still 55. I completely falsified ALL my statistics and won. After, a kid on the other side asked me where I got my data since they had trouble finding any. I told him we (the team) made it up completely. He complained, and the teacher that ran the debate really didn't care, he basically said participants in political debates lie all the time.

and hence lies the problem, we accept lies and flaws too much, to some degree to be non-judgemental and PC. This effectively makes our communication no better than apes. Why do we need complex constructs or even talk at all, if none of this communication can be trusted?

Not lies, just a reinterpretation of the facts.
Seriously, you change the definition of a mass shooting and the data corroborates your story.
It's not really a lie, but if you know what idea the phrase "mass shooting" will conjure in your audience, then present your statement without definition of terms, it's definitely disingenuous.

Is that the stats from that fbi agent removed from the Mueller investigation because of his bias e-mails on trump. Tucker Carlson needs to escort him out of the building.

I love when libtardts use things like the Gun Violence Archive to bolster their claims. This archive doesn't pass the simplest smell test. I started looking at local events to see why I was not in tune with the carnage going on and within 5 events I found data extracted from a Hartford news article that mentions 2 separate incidents that "Police responded to within 10 minutes" that sounded like gang related shootings where 4 people were cut by flying glass. So I guess I missed that mass shooting ........

Just like the bosten bombing brothers, the one that sied was run over by his brother...but its gun violence when a terrorist meets his end.

There are schools in MA, therefore to me it was a school shooting

The problem we have here is the definition of the "mass shooting" we have a philosophical divide between what we want the definition to be, and what the definition became. Like the rest of you I don't believe a scuffle in Chicago that ends up in a gang fight over a pair of limited edition shoes because 3 people got injured with guns is a mass shooting akin to Sandy Hook, but when you blind yourself to just the numbers its a different story.
