I have the new M&P Bodyguard and the mag hangs up on the release button when I insert it. I've read that it can be beveled with a file. I'm very mechanically inclined and detail conscious but have never done any DIY gunsmithing so I'm not sure where to start or if I should attempt this myself. It looks to me like there is a U shaped spring that would need to be removed with a couple of picks. Any input? Thanks in advance.

I've noticed that mine hangs up if I insert the magazine slowly, but not when I slam the magazine in place (such as doing it under stress). I haven't looked into filing it or replacing it with one from Galloway Precision. I bet smith-wesson forum has directions/suggestions.

Aloha

I very carefully and slowly used a small file on it and gave it a smooth face for the magazine to interface with.

I noticed the same, but after a few times inserting and making sure there was nothing wrong... I just slam it in... like it's supposed to be. I say leave it alone and just insert it the way you're supposed to.. but.... if it bothers you.. break out the file.

Polymer mags expand a bit when fully loaded and are somewhat tight to insert. Could this be what you experience. All my Glocks and Shield and M&P compacts require some persuasion to seat the magazines. Just a thought. I wouldn't file anything. Oh, the bodyguard magazine is polymer, no? Never saw one, just assuming it is.

Sally...it is a gun...drive the magazine home...rack the slide with authority...repeat as necessary...g-nite.

Bg mags are metal, as are m&p and shield bodies.

It's a steel magazine. It takes about 20 pounds of force to smash it in so I depress the mag release lever a little so I don't shear the tip off. The problem is that the bevel on the release lever should probably be a little more pronounced. When I insert the mag, the square edge on the top of it strikes the square edge on the underside of the release lever instead of landing on the bevel and driving the lever outward. I just want to add more bevel to the inside bottom edge of the lever. I found a dis-assembly video that shows how to remove the trigger assembly to get the release lever and spring out. I'll give it a bit more time to break in and then file it if necessary.
