Finding a gunsmith?

This is probably an easy one, but I can't for the life of me find it.

I'd like to get the sights changed out on my LC9s and maybe have it Cerakoted. (The factory bluing is not wearing well.) Nothing fancy, and within the realm of stuff I could do on my own... But that a pro could do in a tenth the time and with a much lower chance of goofing it up.

Is "gunsmith" the right descriptor for what I'm looking to have done? How do I go about finding someone to do this? I'm in the Chelmsford/Lowell area, but I'm more wondering if there's a listing of reputable gunsmiths here than seeking specific recommendations. Is this more the domain of individuals who do this on the side, or something most gun shops also do?

Some shops offer it. As an example Northeast Arms in Peabody does both gunsmithing and cerakote - you could always call some local shops and ask.

Yes, for those tasks I think you're looking for a "gunsmith" even though some here are do it your selfers. Some good recommendations here but since you're in Chelmsford I think Shawsheen firearms in Billerica is your best bet. They seem to get good reviews.

Forgot about them. They're just down the road from my work. Seem like a good group of guys.

Tim Gostling does great work. He's in Wrentham.

^this

however OP if you're up in Chelmsford area then Wrentham is like other end of the state. you could probably just ship Tim your slide? would touch base with him first of course.

there may be some good cerakote options up in your area I'm just not familiar. hopefully others will chime in.

Most anyone who does any work on guns that they can't get done with in 24 hours is most likely a licensed "gun smith"
Finding a good one is like any other trade.
I honestly had to become my own "gunsmith" of sorts as when I did most of my searching years ago there didn't seem to be as many smiths as today
Prices where very high IMHO and turn around was dismal.
Maybe smiths today are a bit more productive.
I lean towards 3 smiths only because I either know people to use them or have used them myself.
Rustblue in Natick
Greg Derr in Marshfield
Santurri Attleboro

I'm sure there are some that had less than perfect experiences but I think they are far a few between.

Tim does great work, as does Greg Derr.

I doubt that you can just ship the slide as when I had my G23 cerakoted (1776 Gunsmithing before they moved to FL, Tim told me that likely he did that job when he worked there) they wanted the whole gun so that they could test fire afterwards and ensure that there were no clearance issues that could cause a malfunction. Sounds sensible to me.

Saxonville Armory in Framingham does great work and are reasonable, I have had them do some work for me. I have heard Gartman Arms in Wrentham does good work but haven't used them. Dave Santurri in North Attleboro does very good work, just make sure you set the price first.
