I had found a Finn M39 at a local gun shop which had the stock butchered by someone. Being a collector I really did not want to bubba this rifle but then thought what a great deer rifle this would make. So I bought a scope mount, drilled and tapped the receiver, purchased an stock and using some of the new stock bedding material from Midway set out on this project. I replaced the trigger with an adjustable type from Numrich.Mounted a 3x9 Bushnell scope. Final step was to send the bolt to a friend who custom makes bolts for Mosins.

The best part...at 100 yards I am getting dime sized groups!!!!! Ya just cant beat a Finn M39[wink]

p.s. the ammo used....Czech Silver tip, you know the ammo some folks think is trash!

Update for folks wanting to know the cost of this project. Rifle = $185, stock $65, trigger $65, scope on sale at Midway $75 , bent bolt $60, mount from Centerfire Systems $22. Total= $472. I saw a M39 action on GB last night for 69 bucks. Includes everything you need to start this project. Also there is a stock for 40 bucks so if you shop around you could easily drop the price even lower. I guess I am to inpatient and just buy it from my usual suppliers. But all in all I am happy with the cost and the result. As to accuracy....just ask Milsurp4me about Finn rifles...tack drivers.

That's quite the sporter you have, I like that a lot. I have started a similar project with a T53. It looks as though you have the same stock and scope mount I ordered. Only problem is the scope mount comes with the "drill and tap handle" and I have heard they are problematic, and if I am going to butcher a piece of history I would like to at least do it well. Would your friend be willing to do a bolt for me? If so what would the cost be? I would like to know more about this and where he is located if possible. Thanks!

Kenny he would be happy to make up a bolt for you. If you send him your bolt the cost is $60 .If he supplies the bolt its $70. He had to go up 10 bucks on each recently just to try and make a few bucks.

He does VERY high quality work. He also has three styles, bent with a long handle straight, bent with a long handle swept back and the third which he made up just for the ATI stocks. That is the one I have. I also had him make me one for a Russian Mosin 91/30 that I put a PE scope on and he makes the knob oblong just like the original. If you send your bolt body the plus is if there are numbers on it that match your rifle they stay. My Finn had an unnumbered bolt.

He works on a pit crew for NASCAR and is one of the builders of those cars you see going 200+ miles an hour on the track. No chance of a loose weld there[wink].
PM me if you want his email. I would post it but I am unsure about the forum rules about promoting a firearms related business. By the way that's all he does. He is not a gunsmith he just makes the bolts.

It all started during a telephone conversation I had with him some years back and he said " I can make that for you". Since them he gets request from folks from allover the world who own real collectibles that want a bolt repaired due to age damage etc. he makes it to the specs of the original.

The other nice thing is the weld is invisible. He is making me a back up bolt for my Finn target rifle which is my avatar. The original has a hole and hair line crack. I will use the replacement for shooting and the original for show. I know long winded answer to your question but when it comes to Mosin Nagants I can go on for hours.
