Bought a norinco NHM90 , a tad different than the rest , no clue as to differences, but it has a muzzle nut tack welded , soon to be taken off. It was a Sile NY overstamped with X's as well as a 56s X'ed out and turned into a NHM 90. What does that mean? It has an odd color bolt.. Its red... Not black or silver?? I will have to grind off that little nub inside the mag catch for regular ak mags to work i noticed, anyone got an ak47 steel mags for sale? The pistol grip is nice. Clean insides and shiny bore. Just needs a good oiling soon.

I'm shocked it has anything preventing regular Mag's. That's a early import ban rifle before the mak 90.....has threads under that nut/muzzle thing. Mak90 have no threads. I have had several norinco Ak varients 3 had the purple bolts...never gave it much though. They all ran great and as I know still do. I only have the mak 90 left.bought in 1991 with a free case of 1880 ish rounds of ammo. Corrosive of course but who cared at on sale price of 179.90

The "56" refers to the model, as The Chinese factory 66 started producing AK variants in 1956. After 1973, Norinco took over manufacture. My Norinco MAK90 also has a 56 stamped on it. (but not X'd out) That's the extent of my knowledge on it. There are several other members here, who will hopefully chime in for you, that can tell you every little detail about that rifle.

It's a nice rifle, by the way. Good on you. [wink]

This is an example of a Norinco 56s (fixed stock chinese AKM) that got imported by Sile and had to be re-assigned as a 922r compliant rifle or "non-assault rifle" after the 1989 import ban of "assault rifles." It was caught between two different times and had to conform to the new age.

It's why it'll have threads under the muzzle device, as mac1911, and the mag catch nub.
