I had a very good friend give me a new lower today. It is a forged milspec lower made by Seekins precision.

I am now looking into what I want for a upper.

Cool....what type of shooting do you want to do. After all the uppers I bought/built/sold I ended up in the end really liking to shoot service rifle with my A2 national match rifle.
I ended up with a nm rifle, standard A2, built a clone of RRA varmint gun and my 22lr AR upper. The tactical stuff was not for me. I was lucky enough to brake even on all my tactical style stuff!

I would like something similar to the M4 I had in the Army.

There are many calibers you can build with that, but 308 will need the ar10 lower. Not only is the magwell bigger for the ar10 but I believe they are a little more stout (could be wrong about that).

I really like the Troy industries CQB uppers.

Does Troy Make uppers now, maybe assembles uppers with their guards? I thought they just made hand guards, I may be wrong. If you want one of the better uppers (that's in stock) in CQB mode I'd go for a BCM Upper in Carbine length @14.5''

Some people don't like the 14.5'' uppers, but it will come with a pinned muzzle device so that you don't have to deal with that before assembling the rifle.

If you need to comply with MA AWB, check Stag Arms. They have a railed 14.5" upper that can be factory-Massified. I called to make sure it got the ban treatment when I ordered mine. Enjoy!

That is a nice upper. The Troy upper is made in house and comes complete with the bolt carrier group hand guards and muzzle device. They are around $1200.

Oh, Nice I had no idea they went past hand guards / accessories. The BCM upper I showed its everything except the charging handle (VLTOR cooperation) and BCG would likely be right around $1200 shipped and you'll be supporting a company started by a Veteran.

Other then BCM or LMT I think the only well known company people will agree upon to be better would be Noveske but good luck finding their uppers in stock. Unless of course you're going for a match grade rifle... in which case I can't help you too much.

"BCM(Bravo Company Manufacturing) was founded in 2005 by a veteran United States Marines in Hartland, Wisconsin, where the company maintains its HQ today."
