I've searched the boards and this seems to be a Ford vs. Chevy debate. Some people love Colt others Bushmaster, others RRA, etc... I know Colt has some bigger pin that means some parts aren't interchangeable. I also know that building your own is cheapest. I've also heard about gas-pistol versions that are supposedly more reliable.

My concern here is reliability & durability (why I love my bolt & single shot guns). I don't need tacti-cool but a telescoping stock is a must, though I guess this is an easy change.

What is the AR15 for me that I can walk into a store and buy/order?

As cool as AR15s are everytime I've seen people firing them- they have had "problems" of some sort; but they were all home-built or something like a SIG-556 instead...never seen a normal Colt or Bushmaster AR15 being fired.

Oh, and accuracy matters- but not at the expense of reliability.

I have been trying to do research but there are so many contradictory opinions out there its unreal...

You need a Pre ban if you want a Telescoping stock. If you live under the death grip of Mass.

Colt is the industry standard - everything is as it should be. The Bushmasters I've seen as of late would send me running, (improperly cut chambers, improperly, (or not at all) staked carrier keys, no FA BCG for a short DI, etc). You can build a gun yourself that will eclipse a Bushmaster for less money. You could also have one built for you by LaRue, Noveske, etc. If you're on a budget and want to buy off the shelf, look into Daly Defense and Smith & Wesson....

Buy a big name complete gun and go shoot it. then just keep buying as many things as you can hang off of it until your broke.. Thats what I did, 4 times.

Yup, buy one built by a big name manufacture and have fun. Most of the issues I see at the range are kit builds. They may be built on a Bushmaster lower, but the rifle is not Bushmaster.

IMHO you can never go wrong with Colt. Some say you pay for the name. I feel I am paying for quality.

If I wasn't in MA I would be looking at this

Thanks, now what's the deal with the Colt and parts interoperability? Is that just for a pin that connects the upper & lower or something?

Not a big deal at all. I have 2 colts and 2 NON colts. They make the pins to do whatever you need to do..[wink]

Thanks. So it looks like the only disadvantage to the Colt really is a slighty higher price tag (which is down about $400 vs. what I saw a few months ago); which may or may not be worth paying for...except that there is some consistancy in people saying that Colts are consistantly decent.

I love this board, it helps expand my "I like to shoot but not as much as the rest of you" level of knowledge...

If we are talking complete rifles, the only manufacturer I would hesitate to buy would be Olympic. I don't think you'll have a problem with anything else. You probably wouldn't have a problem with Olympic, either, but I've seen lowers that didn't have trigger holes drilled correctly.

Price shop and buy what you want.

Bushmaster or RRA is the way to go if you can find a good deal on an M&P 15 then go for it i like Colts and LMT but they carry hefty prices i woul dgo for something under 1 grand for a first timer , then after you know how to proper care of one then go for the higher priced ones.

I started with a budget. For my first no frills barebones AR I chose to top out at 1100.00
I then did some research on who and what was available in that range with mass compliant model for new production.

STAG was the only ones that answered my questions and emails
did not hear anything bad about them. So thats who I decide to go with

got a model 2 mass compliant 900.00 last october.

Has been flawless, even eats the steel case lauquer coated wolf ammo. No issues yet. I have not tested all my mags yet though. I get about 3" groups @ 100 yards when a focus a bit. Im sure with nice ammo and some refinement of my skills it may tighten up. It is after all a military weapon so hitting in the center mass area of target at different yardages is just fine with me.

Gents,

All this talk about 6920's, I have one for sale!

Andy

how much would u be selling it for?

i have a Bushmaster 11.5" Hbar with a 5.5"flash supressor its pretty accurate and the bolt carrier key was staked when i bought it NIB i wanted a Colt but my buddy said they aint worth the money your just paying for the name blah blah but i shot one they seem as good as my bushmaster but have better trigger pull.

Haha, thanks. I'm not a big buyer of used guns though unless it's something just for fun- yes I know that's stupid- and no I don't have a better explanation for it.

If you get an AR-15 that is built to MIL-SPEC they are all the same. The only thing that I would get on it is a bull barrel, 'A4 recver (flat top) and a 20 inch barrel, and free floating tube if you want it for the range. Bushmaster is what I have with a 16 inch barrel A4 recever and free floating tube and fixed stock and a quad rail gas block
